Singapore's Verzio unveils a couple of firsts

Singapore-based Verzio has launched what it claims is the world's first dual-SIM phone with tri-band 3G, called Duplii. While not much has been revealed about how its dual-SIM functionality actually works, the handset apparently supports "simultaneous dual mode standby" and is "switch-capable between two incoming calls." The Duplii also comes with a 2-megapixel camera, 2.2-inch QVGA TFT display, expandable memory card slot, and a built-in music and video player.

In addition to Duplii, Verzio has announced the lower-end dual-SIM handset, Twinn, which it also claims is the world's first EDGE/E-GPRS tri-band dual-SIM … Read more

FilesTube scours file-upload sites, makes them searchable

Files that have been uploaded to hosting sites tend to have a short shelf life, but there are few that manage to keep them around indefinitely. In many cases, users will simply forget about a previously uploaded file, or have no more use for it. To help give these orphaned files a second life is FilesTube, a search engine that monitors files that have recently been uploaded to a handful of file-sharing sites and makes them easily searchable. While the files aren't in any way hosted to FilesTube, the service acts as a middleman to point you to where … Read more

T-Mobile's new Nokia 6263 brings 3G

More clues are emerging that T-Mobile's is getting ready to launch its 3G network. Today Nokia announced a new cell phone for the carrier, the Nokia 6263. The 6263 is the second 3G-capable (UMTS 850/2100) handset for T-Mobile (the 3G-capable Samsung SGH-T639 launched in October), which is the only major carrier not to operate a wireless broadband network. Though it has promised that it will launch 3G in the future, T-Mobile is still mum on exactly when that will happen. Some have speculated that it could happen as early as tomorrow, which leads to ask if the launch … Read more

Wi-Fi-ify the house with a $5 router

This post is brought to you by the letter G--as in 802.11g. No broadband-infused home is complete without a router, which lets Wi-Fi-equipped notebooks, cell phones, Zune players, and the like roam free within the walls. Now's your chance to scoop up a TrendNet 802.11g router for just 5 bucks (after $35' worth of mail-in rebates).

Granted, TrendNet's not exactly a household name, but the router appears to have all the prerequisite features and security goodness: four wired LAN ports, virtual server support, 64/128-bit WEP WPA/WPA2 encryption, and so on. And it scored 4.… Read more

AT&T joins Jobs in saying a 3G iPhone will come next year

We heard it from Apple CEO Steve Jobs already, but now AT&T also is saying that the carrier will offer a 3G iPhone. According to Bloomberg News, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said yesterday that a 3G version of Apple's cell phone will be available in 2008. Stephenson didn't elaborate on exactly when we'd see it--though Jobs had said late in 2008--nor did he say exactly what features it would offer. And as for a price (currently the iPhone retails for $399), Stephenson said that would be up to Jobs to dictate.

More T-Mobile 3G rumors

The latest dish from the cell phone rumor mill says that T-Mobile will switch on its long-awaited 3G network on December 6. According to the a maddeningly vague, and somewhat illogical, article posted on the Inquirer's Web site (no, not the National Enquirer), a T-Mobile representative told a customer in Washington that the carrier would activate 3G service in the Seattle area "on or before 6 December 2007." T-Mobile still has not made public its 3G launch date, but it did release a 3G-capable phone, the Samsung SGH-T639, earlier this month.

While the article provides no facts … Read more

Video: Will the G-Wiz electric car kill you?

One of the easiest ways to help Mother Earth is to ditch your petrol-guzzling, smog-bellowing harbinger of death, in exchange for a G-Wiz. It's a fully electric car, meaning you never, ever have to fill it up with petrol. Just plug it in at home or at your local garage, charge it up for eight hours, then drive to your heart's content, safe in the knowledge that you're not exacerbating Mother Nature's toxic asthma.

We recently went for a spin in one of these mobile rabbit hutches and can bring you video evidence of why you … Read more

Fashionable headphones for urban warfare

These headphones can beat up your iPod earbuds.

The Skullcandy G.I. headphones are the first we've seen with built-in bullet holders in the headband, as well as a zip-up pouch that holds what looks like a bottle opener. (Update: According to Skullcandy, the tool included in the pouch is a screwdriver/skate tool/bottle-opener combo.)

Available in four styles--Rasta, Desert, Camo, and CCore (pictured here)--the CCore models look like the ones to buy if you want the fewest number of people getting all up in your face and/or messing with your biz.
