Samsung HT-BD1250: Best budget Blu-ray HTIB we've reviewed
DVD home-theater-in-box systems seem to offer a lot of value from the spec sheet, but are often seriously disappointing in use, with lackluster audio and video being the norm.
So far, our experience with Blu-ray HTIBs has been the exact opposite; almost all of the systems we've tested this year offer a legitimate home theater experience. The Samsung HT-BD1250 (street price as low as $500) is the best budget system we've seen.
We were fully expecting lifeless sound after our review of the Samsung HT-AS730, but the HT-BD1250 proved our prejudice wrong, offering credible sound quality even with … Read more
Samsung goes LCD-happy on two new cameras
If you thought putting a projector in the front of a pocket camera was genius, how do you feel about a second LCD? Samsung thinks the idea is so good its launching two new models with dual screens: the TL220 and TL225.
The cameras share many of the same specs: 12.2-megapixel resolution, a wide-angle 27mm lens with a 4.6x zoom, dual image stabilization, 720p HD-quality video capture at 30 frames per second (H.264), and a 1.5-inch LCD in front. The TL220 features a 3-inch LCD on back, whereas the TL225 has a 3.5-inch screen. Also, … Read more
Samsung's CL65 ultracompact camera offers alphabet soup of connections
Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, DLNA support, gesture user interface, high-resolution touch screen, and HD video: Samsung's throwing a kitchen-sink's-worth of technologies into its CL65 point-and-shoot ultracompact camera. Other manufacturers have tried--and failed--to make a lot of these features work before. But while several of the CL65's capabilities may yet prove useful and attractive, it looks like some are traveling the oft-trodden road of FAIL.
For instance, the Wi-Fi implementation is pretty much the same as everyone else's lackluster attempts, and perhaps even more limited. It won't work through any access point that throws up a verification/… Read more
Samsung LNB640 series Quick Take
The Samsung LNB640 series of LCD HDTVs was introduced in the spring of 2009 and is excluive to electronics retailer Best Buy. It consists of the 32-inch LN32B640, 40-inch LN40B640, 46-inch LN46B640 and 55-inch LN55B640.
CNET did not review any of these models, but we did review a similar product, the Samsung LN46B650, that may give you an idea of how the LNB640 will perform. The LNB640 has a slightly lower contrast ratio (80,000:1 vs. 100,000:1) than the LNB650, so it will probably display somewhat lighter, less realistic black levels. The LB640 has an additional composite … Read more
Ion-packing Netbooks: Samsung N510 finally arrives next month
We feel like we've been waiting a long time for this, but Netbooks running Atom processors alongside Nvidia's Ion GPU are finally coming to the America...soon.
Reports from Liliputing.com claim that the Samsung N510, an 11.6-inch Netbook, is on its way next month. Included in the N510 will be HDMI out and an "ability to handle Blu-ray," though we're not sure how that will apply in a laptop without an optical drive. We're still waiting for the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 Ion version to arrive--we reviewed the non-Nvidia Atom version of the … Read more
Samsung Omnia 2 coming August 23?
Since we posted a First Take of Samsung's Omnia 2 back in June, a lot of readers have been asking when Verizon would actually begin selling it. NEW YORK--Green is the new black in wireless as companies like Sprint Nextel and Samsung announce new products and programs geared toward environmental sustainability.
At a press event Thursday at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum here, the companies announced a new eco-friendly device called the Reclaim and an overall strategy to green the wireless market.
The news comes as consumers are increasingly buying products and services based on environmental sustainability. From energy-saving light bulbs to hybrid cars and now environmentally-friendly cell phones, green is all the rage.
For Sprint, which has been plagued by a poor customer service reputation for … Read more
Samsung goes green with the Reclaim
Samsung rarely misses a trend, and you usually can count on the company to jump on a movement early. Just consider the concept of the green gadget. Though the Motorola Renew W233 remains the only eco-friendly phone with a major U.S. carrier, Samsung wants in on the green game, too.
Like the Renew, the new Samsung Reclaim SPH-M560 for Sprint also is made from recycled plastic and comes in a box that's made from recycled paper. Yet, the Reclaim goes a step further by offering more features than the Renew and a full QWERTY keyboard. On the whole, … Read more
