Hyundai Equus gets the Dub treatment at SEMA

Hyundai hit the 2008 SEMA Show hard with an ultraluxe selection of its then-new Genesis Sedan. In 2009, it was the Genesis Coupe's time to shine and the automaker made the sports car available to almost any tuner who wanted one--keeping the best, of course, at its own booth. At the 2010 SEMA Show, Hyundai continues its aftermarket blitz with the new flagship Equus, giving one example to the guys at Dub for their trademark treatment of big wheels, big style, and big sound. Another Equus benefits from Hyundai's longstanding relationship with Rhys Millen Racing, getting a … Read more

Mercedes-Benz reveals specs on two new V8s

Mercedes-Benz today unveiled two new engines for the 2011 CL-Class.

The first of two all-new direct injection biturbo V8 engines is for the 2011 CL550 4MATIC. According to Mercedes, the 4.6-liter V8 engine has 20 percent smaller displacement than its predecessor, but delivers 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is 12 percent more horsepower and 32 percent more torque. It also has an improved fuel economy of about 10 percent. The CL550 4MATIC will have an MSRP of $114,025.

The second new engine is for the 2011 CL63 AMG coupe ($151,125) and S63 AMG sedan ($… Read more

2011 Buick Regal CXL: the devil's in the details

Buick's new entry-level Regal CXL has a lot going for itself. The sedan features looks that Buicks of the mid-90s could only dream of. The performance and fuel efficiency look good on paper, while the European-tuned suspension impressed on the road. In the cabin, it checks many of the boxes we like to see in the technology department. So, why did the 2011 Buick Regal CXL end up with such a middle-of-the-road score at the end of our review? As they say, the devil's in the details.

Once the Regal rolled off of the showroom turntable and onto … Read more

2011 BMW 535i is bigger, yet also smaller

New for 2011, the BMW 5-Series is bigger, more comfortable, and more efficient. The 535i's peak power remains steady at 300-horsepower, but efficiency climbs by a few MPGs in the city and on the highway, thanks to a new turbo system. New exterior styling creates an appearance that is visually smaller, despite the fact that the sedan has grown in nearly every dimension. It amazingly manages to do all of this with a lower MSRP than the previous model year, closing the value gap between it and the lower priced Japanese luxury-sport sedans.

However, the 535i isn't without … Read more

Sexiest Volvo that never was (concept car Friday)

If you ever though that a Volvo couldn't be sexy, prepare to be surprised. Nouphone J. Bansasine designed this slick 2015 Volvo S90 concept during his internship at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center--birthplace of the XC90, S80, S60, and the Safety Concept Car that would become the current Volvo C30--and it's probably the sweetest looking Volvo that we've ever seen.

The S90 has the four-door coupe profile that is so very popular with automakers these days, but it has what appear to be rear suicide doors, a la Mazda RX-8 or Mini Clubman. At the … Read more

Infiniti will add 2 variants this year

LOUISVILLE -- Infiniti will introduce two model variations this year in an effort to broaden the brand's product line without adding body styles.

One of the changes is certain to involve Nissan Motor Co.'s new high-output direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which will debut in the United States this year on the new Nissan Juke crossover.

While withholding specific details, Ben Poore, vice president of the Infiniti business unit, told journalists here last week that dealers will receive the two additional products in October or November.

Poore described one of the new offerings as "performance-oriented" -- a … Read more

Take a look at 2010 Lexus HS250h Hybrid

In quite a few TV commercials lately, Lexus has been touting its hybrid-car muscle. So I figured why not take Lexus up on its boasts and see what their current hybrid line is about? With that thought, I present today's video that takes a look at the 2010 Lexus HS250h.

The Lexus HS250h is the company's entry-level luxury hybrid sedan, and it is also its first dedicated foray into the production of hybrid vehicles. At the 35-second mark in the video, we see in plain print what some of the specs are for comparison with other hybrids. The … Read more

2010 Maserati Quattroporte: A closer look

In my last article, we got to see and hear the Maserati Quattroporte, the car most likely to get a woman hot and bothered through the noise it emits in action, according to a study. In 2008, a British insurance company conducted a test to validate this theory; however, I imagine it would be hard to prove such a claim as indisputable fact. However, there are other aspects of the Quattroporte that are true--and that's what today's video is all about. So let's take closer look at the 2010 edition of this Italian stallion.

The 2011 Maserati … Read more

Hyundai swoops in with the 2011 Sonata SE

It used to be that the name Hyundai Sonata was more likely to upturn noses than turn heads, but with its new 2011 model, that may all be about to change.

The new Sonata SE is bigger, faster, and, well, swoopier than the outgoing model. Hyundai's newest sedan makes quite the first impression with its scuplted exterior and with its interior appointments. Hyundai also boosted the Sonata's cabin tech  to pretty impressive levels as well with standard Bluetooth with audio streaming, standard USB/iPod connectivity, an available 360-watt premium audio rig, and an inexpensive touch-screen navigation option … Read more

Kia unveils next-generation Optima

The current Kia Optima is a bit of an also-ran in the US sedan market; however, that may be about to change. A few weeks ago, Kia released conceptual sketches of the upcoming Magentis-Optima sedan. This week, we received the first official photos of the sedan, which is set to bow at the 2010 New York auto show.

Although the slab-sided sedan is much taller than the low-slung sketch we saw, the next-generation Optima shown in the photos appears to be longer and wider than the current model is. If you look closely at the front end,  you'll … Read more
