Greenpeace online poll gives humpback a whale of a name

Greenpeace might want to save the whales, but it's not above giving them silly names.

The legendary environmental organization, as part of its Great Whale Trail Expedition campaign, is tracking humpback whales in the South Pacific via satellite tags and hoping to gather data that will help protect them from hunting. To humanize the massive cetaceans a bit, Greenpeace International is also holding a whale-naming competition in the form of an online poll. It appears, looking at the site, that a number of "winning" names will go to the array of whales being tracked.

Letterman's got a lot of love

With the writer's strike 10 days in, many of those employed by talk shows and other programs are beginning to feel the financial effects of the silent set, but some folks have been spared the impact (at least for now).

David Letterman, who hosts the The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS, has offered to pay his staff through the rest of the year. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the money will come directly from Letterman himself. His production company, Worldwide Pants, also owns The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and the employees of that show will also be provided for throughout the remainder of 2007.

Electronic lederhosen showcased at IFA

Crave UK has a great photo gallery of the top tech spotted at IFA 2007 in Berlin, but these suede iLederhosen somehow didn't make the cut.

The lederhosen, which have integrated iPod controls under the left pocket, put the funk in Internationale Funkausstellung.

The Bavarian-style pantaloons, first seen at this year's CeBit, are made by German clothing stalwart Lodenfrey. Lodenfrey has been making haute fashions since 1842, but they've only been making electro-lederhosen since last July.
