Orange releases LG GD910 Watch Phone pricing

The LG GD910 Watch Phone won't be coming to the U.S. any time soon, but it is slated to come out on the Orange network in Europe before the year is over. We initially thought it would be priced about $1,500 (around 1,000 pounds or $1,144 at the time), but Orange just released the official pricing--it will be priced at $1,290 (899 euros) with a one- or two-year contract.

OK, so it's not that much cheaper, and the unlocked price is probably way more than that. Still, it's way cheaper than … Read more

Orange, T-Mobile could get iPhone in the U.K.

Like it does in most countries, Apple has a preferred wireless carrier in the United Kingdom. In this case the carrier is O2, but that may not be the case for long, at least for the iPhone 3G.

According to a report on Mobile Today, Apple may open up iPhone 3G sales to other wireless carriers in the U.K., namely O2 competitors Orange and T-Mobile. O2's exclusive with Apple reportedly ends in September, giving Apple a couple of months to set up other deals.

T-Mobile is so sure that they will get the contract for the iPhone 3G … Read more

Orange unveils solar concept tent at Glastonbury

Telecom giant Orange unveiled a concept solar tent in conjunction with the opening of this year's Glastonbury music festival in the U.K.

Inspired by the new flexible photovoltaics in development, the tent--if produced for consumers--would be covered in a semi-photovoltaic fabric woven with both coated solar threads and conventional threads to form a solar shell that could be adjusted to face optimum sun throughout the day.

The solar energy would then be channeled into four main power uses: heating, lighting, communications, and recharging.

The goal of Kaleidoscope, the design firm working in conjunction with Orange, was to create … Read more

Orange sells 1 million iPhones in France

Orange, Apple's wireless partner in France, on Friday said it had sold its first million iPhones in that country.

Apple and Orange began selling iPhones in France in late-November 2007. The 1 million iPhone milestone is an important goal for the carrier and Apple's international market, pointing to the success of the device in countries other than the U.S.

In its second fiscal quarter, Apple reported selling 3.79 million iPhones. The company doesn't break out sales by country, so there is no way to tell what percentage were sold in the U.S. or any … Read more

U.K. operators may strip Skype from Nokia devices

It looks like the deal to embed Skype clients on Nokia phones is meeting some resistance among wireless operators and could dampen the scope of the planned integration.

The Web site Mobiletoday.co.uk reported earlier this week that sources at O2 and Orange say the companies are "furious" that Nokia plans to pre-load the new high-end N97 smartphone with Skype, which allows users to make free calls over the Internet using a data connection.

The carriers may refuse to carry phones with the Skype feature embedded. Instead, they may insist on selling only Nokia phones without the … Read more

LG watch phone to cost $1,500?

This post was updated at 3:55 p.m. PT with comment from Orange.

LG pretty much owned the first day of CES last month when its chief technology officer popped up onstage and casually took a call via the LG watch phone on his wrist.

But those looking forward to owning the touch-screen, 3G-enabled timepiece might have second thoughts when they hear the price. A report from Mobile Today in the U.K. says that exclusive European carrier Orange will be charging 1,000 GBP, the equivalent of about $1,500, when the phone becomes available.

Keeping it simple with the Cuisinart Citrus Juicer

Sometimes it's the simple things. After a weekend that has most likely been filled with ribs, hotdogs, chips and dips, a welcome retreat from the fatty and greasy is necessary. At times like these, I crave juice. Lots of juice. Super-size juice. Freshly squeezed, please. Nothing beats the healthy feeling that comes from drinking a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. You don't even have to spend the day recovering from Super Bowl food to enjoy; juice is great at anytime.

This Cuisinart Citrus Juicer (which even somewhat resembles a football) could be the solution for your Super … Read more

Orange starts selling pay-as-you-go BlackBerry

Orange has launched the first pay-as-you-go BlackBerry deal in the U.K.

On Thursday, the operator said the Pearl 8120 model will work with its pre-paid data services, making it the only BlackBerry deal in the U.K. that does not require the customer to sign a long-term contract.

"With nearly two-thirds of U.K. mobile customers now using pay-as-you-go, we are really pleased to be bringing one of the most popular e-mail and multimedia devices to the masses," Orange UK's head of pay-as-you-go, Pippa Dunn, said in a statement.

BlackBerry smartphones tend to be tied to … Read more
