Mitsubishi debuts hybrid laser- and LED-lit TV

While Sharp's Quattron technology adds discrete yellow to standard red, green, and blue (RGB) primary colors to improve TV color fidelity, Mitsubishi has taken a different approach to achieve a similar result. Mitsubishi has developed a hybrid LED-edgelit LCD panel that utilizes red laser diodes on top of cyan LEDs. This new technology delivers a wider color gamut of about 1.3 times and "drastically" improves red vividness, according to the company.

Sony and Sharp have previously introduced LED-backlighting systems via RGB LEDs for their past LCD TVs. In Mitsubishi's case, the red element is taken … Read more

Mitsubishi shows its i electric car in Los Angeles

The 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show played host to the introduction of Mitsubishi's i electric car for the U.S. market. Up until this introduction, Mitsubishi had used the Japanese market version to introduce the car to the press, but the U.S. version shows substantial changes. It seems to have dropped the Miev from its name, simply becoming the i.

Virtually test-drive an Outlander Sport

To promote the launch of the all-new Outlander Sport, Mitsubishi is letting people take one for a spin on a closed course, controlling it remotely via the Web.

Until now, most virtual test-drives have been little more than a microsite with a few videos of a new car tooling around on picturesque city streets. A neighbor waves, a hill is climbed, and the driver adjusts the features of an entertainment system. It may be mildly entertaining, but it's hardly a virtual test-drive. The problem is always that you're more like a passenger than driver--the only thing you might … Read more
