Toyota details the 2010 4Runner

When we last discussed Toyota's 2010 4Runner, I was nitpicking a very silly gimmick called "Party Mode." Since then, the new model has been released and is available.

Starting with the basic SR5 model, the 4Runner's upper trim levels (Limited and Trail) head in two very different directions with two very different sets of suspension technologies.

The Limited features X-REAS, a sort of pneumatic sway bar system that links the dampers of each front wheel with the rear wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle. When the left side of the vehicle is compressed during, … Read more

Hulu to stream Austin City Limits live on Facebook

This weekend, starting Friday at 10:30 a.m. PDT, Hulu will be live-streaming the Austin City Limits music festival. Hulu will be using its Watch Now application on Facebook, which has a live events box integrated so that users can discuss the concert as they watch.

You can see the schedule of acts on the Facebook application page for the live-stream. Unfortunately, the stream features only a fraction of the acts that are playing the festival. In fact, some of the biggest acts, including Kings of Leon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dave Matthews Band, and Pearl Jam are missing from … Read more

Asus debuting family of thin, light laptops

Asus is the latest PC maker to hit the market with its own line of thin, light laptops.

The Taiwanese company revealed its new family of notebooks at a news conference in Taipei on Monday. The ASUS UnLimited, or UL, laptops measure less than 24.5 millimeters (one inch) thick and weigh anywhere from 3.3 to 4.6 pounds, depending on the model.

Asus boasts that the laptops can deliver up to 12 hours of life on a single battery charge. Users can switch video mode from the dedicated NVIDIA graphics card to the integrated graphics to save battery … Read more

Palm Pre & Touch Pro Face Off

I hope everyone had a great Independence Day, had fun, and were safe. Before going to the fireworks I had the thought of battery life between my HTC Touch Pro And My Palm Pre. (Thanks again to Sprint, CNET, and Palm) Being a user that needs a battery to last under harsh conditions this is a very important factor on what device will be active on my account. Being a Windows Mobile fanatic I must admit it's weird being a noob again. The operating system just keeps getting better as I find new features throughout the device. Per examples, the g-sensor is very accurate and smooth unlike my Touch Pro which can be choppy at points if multiple processes are running in the background. The light sensor just amazes me, when my phone falls asleep i can just hold my hand over the ear piece than move to turn the device on. The sensor is also great since when you put the phone to your face it automatically turns the screen off so the user doesn't get buttons pressed. (when removed from your face the light turns back on.) Without further ado here are the results from my little test, and remember that these results are with both phones at 1 bar of service and calling eachother from a full 100%charge.… Read more

Everyday Work, Can The Palm Pre Handle It?

Waking up in the morning for another 3:00pm-11:30pm shift at the local hospital, the decision was immediately made to put it through stress and a beating to see how it really performs under pressure. Surprisingly, the Pre held up very well overall. I do hospital security and dispatch and decided that all calls and emails that were sent out were going to be through the Pre itself. Why, some may ask? In rebuttle why not? When doing this I will be able to see how long the battery can last why multitasking with email, calls, and my normal streams of text messages constantly. The device didn't seem to be bothered by this at all as long as there weren't too many apps running in the background. (close by flicking up on the "cards" like a task manager.) By time the tirade was over with the calls and the emails i had totaled over 120 minutes in short calls (rounded) and had sent out over 35 emails to various people on top of the 50 or so text messages and am still at 32% battery life! That is much longer than my HTC Touch Pro lasted, considering I'm stuck in the basement with one bar max if your in the right area of the office. Don't get me wrong there is still room for advancement on the Palm Pre and for WebOs on a whole but they are def on the correct path. Hopefully the official SDK will be released soon so more programs will appear since many don't trust the leaked version. (I need to get my hands on a X32 bit computer since the Palm SDK doesn't support X64 machines) The only major problem that I faced throughout this whole project was a couple of emails kept getting stuck in a loop of failures, the Pre cleared itself up and resent the messages automatically. I did get lucky enough to have my buddy get the ok from his boss to get me a free RocketFish Pre hard shell case and clip to review)… Read more

Xbox/Nike foot protectors fetch $4,000 on eBay marketplace

As a reformed sneakerhead, I understand the mentality behind getting the latest gear, but my mind was officially blown after seeing a pair of custom Xbox Nike Dunks sell for $4,000 on eBay this weekend.

It should be noted that this isn't an official collaboration between the two companies, but rather a special one-off pair made by Sole Junkie, an online company specializing in custom sneakers.

The sneaker is a hi-top version of the popular Nike Dunk basketball shoe, but Sole Junkie snuck fiber optic wiring into the patent leather in the shape of the popular Xbox logo … Read more

Boldly sit where no geek has sat before...Captain Kirk's command chair

With all the buzz surrounding the release of the new "Star Trek" movie, here's a little something to remind you of the kinder, gentler, and, yes, cheesier days of the original "Star Trek" series (for those of you old enough to remember)...a replica of Captain Kirk's command chair.

This life-size replica is a dead-ringer for Captain Kirk's original swivel-throne from the bridge of the starship Enterprise. Designed from actual Paramount Studio drawings, the swivel seat is covered in leather while the majority of the chair is made from wood.

The base of … Read more

AT&T tests limits on subscribers' Web use

Updated at 7 p.m. PT to indicate customers will have a tool to measure their usage.

In an effort to keep "bandwidth hogs" in check, AT&T is testing the idea of placing limits on how much Internet data its subscribers can transfer each month.

The test, which began being applied in the Reno, Nev., area on Saturday, limits customers of AT&T's slowest DSL service to 20 gigabytes of monthly data transfers, while users of the fastest service will be limited to 150 gigabytes. Customers will have access to an online tool to … Read more
