Easy-to-use schedule manager

OrgScheduler is an attractive and intuitive schedule management program that is a pleasure to use. Although it is not crammed with extra features, it does the basics very well and has a few cool extras to boot.

We loved that OrgScheduler's interface is so clean and intuitive, yet offers users plenty of options. The options for viewing the calendar alone are impressive, with vertical and horizontal views, daily calendars with increments as small as 5 minutes, quarterly and annual views, and quite a few others. However you like to look at your calendar, OrgScheduler can accommodate you, and will … Read more

The Contact Transfer Workaround

If you read about my disappointment with the Pre's bluetooth capabilities, or lack thereof, then you'll know I've been frustrated with my contacts being on my Instinct and not my Pre.

Yesterday I did some looking around, (again) but couldn't find any cut and dry solutions. I figured tho, with both devices being smart phones I ought to be able to export from one and transfer to the other. Some how.

Here's what ended up working. … Read more

Amazon Web Services: 'Ship us your drives'

Amazon Web Services has unveiled a new service that lets users physically ship their data on drives, to be uploaded to the company's cloud-based S3 storage facilities.

AWS Import/Export, currently in beta, was announced on Thursday. In an Amazon Web Services (AWS) blog post, the team noted that "hard drives are getting bigger more rapidly than Internet connections are getting faster," and said a service such as Import/Export had been frequently requested by customers who wanted their data to be remotely hosted, but who had storage requirements at the terabyte and petabyte level.

Video: Import Web e-mail accounts into Gmail

In light of Gmail's updated e-mail import feature, which was released on Wednesday, we put together a short video to show you how to use it.

The good news is that it's incredibly easy. So easy anyone can do it. Then again, if you're new to Gmail (which is just the type of person this feature is aimed at), the process can be confusing.

We take you through the steps of entering in your old information, and what it looks like when the process is all done. To see this in glorious HD, head over to CNET TV. … Read more

Ffwd's new Facebook app aggregates your videos

Video service Ffwd has a new tool out for Facebook users that lets them import their videos from the Web into their news feeds and fan pages.

Similar to what Splashcast once did with its Facebook application (which has since been discontinued), Ffwd gives you the option to import a specific video feed, be it your favorites or all videos you've uploaded, and turn it into a content channel. This means you can have it automatically post to your Facebook wall every time you upload a new clip. You cannot, however, select individual clips to be sent to your … Read more

Scheduling glitch

SyncBackSE is another contender in the backup program category, but there's nothing here that you haven't already seen before, even in cheaper programs. We also found a few glitches with the program's scheduling feature.

The program uses a wizard-like approach to creating backup tasks. Using it, we were able to create a new backup task fairly easily. The program includes not only the ability to back up files, but also to synchronize, mirror, and group files together. A zip feature is available that allows you to backup your file into a ZIP file. All was well when … Read more

Four places that import your Google Notebooks

Just a little more than a week ago Google announced it would no longer be developing Google Notebook, its free collaborative notes and bookmarks service. While this doesn't mean the service is closing its doors--and more importantly, not allowing people to create and work on new notebooks--most folks will want to move to something that's (hopefully) going to have bugs fixed and a person to talk to when things go wrong.

On Friday we put together a short list of possible alternatives, and now several of those have come up with import tools that will grab whatever you … Read more

Twitter friend finder for FriendFeed gets official

If you were a user of the previously blogged about Twitter-to-FriendFeed Contact sync tool by Carter Rabasa, you'll be pleased to know similar functionality is now built-in to FriendFeed. On Tuesday the company quietly launched its own importer as part of its other friend-finding tools.

To find buddies from Twitter who are also using FriendFeed you simply type in your Twitter username and it does the rest. Unlike Rabasa's tool, there's no need to give the service either your Twitter password, or (obviously) the one you use for FriendFeed. As an added bonus, FriendFeed's import tool … Read more

Combine your Firefox bookmarks and IE favorites

For most people, browsing is an either-or proposition: they use either Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox. But I'm betting there's a bunch of people like me who find themselves spending time in both browsers, often simultaneously.

The problem is, my list of Firefox bookmarks bears no resemblance to my collection of IE favorites. It took all of about five minutes to solve this problem.

Move your IE favorites to Firefox Open Firefox 3 and click File > Import to start the Import Wizard. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer and click Next. Uncheck all the options except … Read more

Merge your Outlook and Gmail contacts

I spend most of my workday Alt-Tabbing between my Gmail inbox and the Outlook account on my employer's Exchange Server. The problem is, when it comes to contacts, there isn't much overlap between the two: Only a handful of Gmail addresses are also in the Outlook contacts list, and vice-versa.

Rectifying the situation takes only a few minutes. Start by moving your Outlook contacts to Gmail. In Outlook 2003 and 2007, click File > Import and Export, select "Export to a file," click Next, choose either comma-separated value option, and click Next again. Browse to and … Read more
