Apple updates iPhoto and GarageBand for OS X

As part of the new iPad announcement Apple released new versions of iPhoto and GarageBand for iOS, but in addition Apple updated the existing versions of these programs for its Mac OS X platform.

Most hardware announcements Apple makes are usually accompanied by a piece of software. With the announcement of the new iPad and Apple TV today, Apple also announced the launch of iPhoto for iOS.

You can purchase iPhoto for iOS starting today in the App Store. It will set you back $4.99, and you will need to be running iOS 5.1 on your iOS device(s) for iPhoto to install. With the size of the app coming in at 106MB, you will need to be connected to Wi-Fi to download the app on your device.

Apple launches iPad app for iPhoto, updates others

Apple unveiled a new version of iPhoto today alongside the new iPad.

The company is bringing the photo software, already found on MacBooks, to the iPad. Apple executives showed off the editing capabilities of the new iPhoto app and said it would work with photos up to 19 megapixels.

Apple has released an update for OS X that supplies additional raw format compatibility support to the operating system. The update will implement this support in Apple's consumer photo management tool, iPhoto '11, and also in its professional Aperture 3 program.

Apple iPhoto 9.2.1 update addresses 3ivx crash

Along with the EFI firmware updates that it released for some of its Mac systems today, Apple has also released an update for iPhoto that addresses an issue in which the program may unexpectedly quit when using the popular 3ivx video codec.

The update, which brings the latest program version to 9.2.1, includes fixes for problems that were addressed with the latest 9.2 update as well, which is likely why the update weighs in at around 357.18MB (download it here). The updates that the 9.2.0 release addressed were the following:
