Pitcher is picture of relaxation

Ah, weekends. Just look at that picture; doesn't it look like a weekend in motion? Very slow motion. It is the picture of relaxation. In fact, it looks so relaxing that a nice, cool drink poured from this pitcher would go great right now--perfect for heading into the weekend.

The Prodyne Fruit Infusion Pitcher is an elegant solution to a simple problem. No longer must real lemon-flavored water come with the unfortunate side effect of having to dodge seeds and pulp. A removable rod holds fruit or berries and infuses the liquid throughout. Water can be refilled without wasting … Read more

Food for the future

I always believed the future to be a wonderful place filled with lots of flying things and robots who enjoyed working for humanity. While much of that hasn't happened, at least our food hasn't turned into bland tasteless pellets that we consume once a day for all of our nutritional needs. That would be a very bleak future indeed. While we may not be flying around in jet packs just yet, we still have a rich and diverse food culture that seems to have no end. If there were a future in which we all had to eat … Read more

Pineapple slicer does what it promises

About two years ago, a more carefree version of myself started buying fresh cut fruit at the grocery store. Sure, it was more expensive, but with four kids and a busy work schedule, who has time to slice pineapple?

Fast forward to the current financial state of my own personal union, and suddenly I find myself with more time than money. So I'm back to slicing my own fruit. And yet, still, who the heck wants to slice up a pineapple?

This award-winning slicer from Vacu Vin makes it a lot easier. You can peel, core, and slice up … Read more

How do you like them Apple-branded apples?

Some of you may have heard of a thing called the Apple iPod. Today, an apple farmer out of Japan brings you the iPod Apple. By placing hand-cut stickers of the Apple logo or a silhouette of an iPod on the fruit, the farmer gives these special apples "tan lines" that show love for his favorite consumer electronics brand.

I've been accused of being an Apple fanboy many times before (and, more recently, a Zune fanboy), but even I wouldn't go so far as to Apple-ize my food.

And being that the crown jewel of Cupertino … Read more

Eat the produce, leave the dirt

Today I came home from the farmers market with a full bag of produce for my impending Fourth of July barbecue, and by the time I got everything into the fridge, my hands were covered in dirt.

The beautiful thing about buying local organic foods is that they're free of all of the pesticides and hormones found in the frankenfruit that usually shows up on the shelves in the store down the street. The downside is that, since they travel directly from the mud to the market, I have to spend twice the time cleaning, cutting, and peeling as … Read more

Mr. Potato Head-like game has fruity personality

Parents on the lookout for carefree, unintimidating ways to urge the sprout of their young kids' creativity ought to take a look at Ten Amazing Fruits. As the product name suggests, Ten Amazing Fruits stars a sampling of botanical characters, including the frequently miscast tomato (hurrah!) These are not, however, your garden-variety fruits. Each outsize organic possesses arms, feet, and a blank face upon which children can attach, Mr. Potato Head-style, a variety of digital features and appendages. A posh voice recites object names when the cursor mouses by, but a quick trip to the options can put an end … Read more

'Banana phone' isn't one, really

There's a funny thing about LG's new "banana phone." Unless we're mistaken, it doesn't have much in common with its namesake fruit.

For one thing, it's not yellow. In fact, the only color at all (other than white) seems to be a hint of orange. And even though it does have a slightly curved form, we highly doubt that you'd mistake it for a Chiquita if it were hanging around the produce section at Safeway. The LG-SV280 does make good on the other half of its name, however, in that it is … Read more
