Part of what reminded me about watching the 93rd Indianapolis 500 race this last weekend actually was Sarah Fisher's appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to promote the upcoming race. As usual, Fisher came off very sweet and gave a fun interview (hard not to when your foil is Jon Stewart, after all) and much was made of how she was the first woman to be racing an eighth Indy 500...not bad, girlfriend. Well as you probably know by now, Fisher didn't win (though she finished 17th on the lead lap, and overall ranked 25th … Read more
Edgios, a little-known search start-up, may be about to come out of its self-imposed shell.
The company, which has offices in the United States and Serbia, has received extensive advance coverage--especially on Serbian developer discussion boards prior to its official launch.
Edgios has been alpha testing its software since the fall. However, Steve Jurvetson, a managing director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson, one of the company's major venture backers, today dropped a broad hint that the coming-out party may be near.
In a presentation he delivered on the history of technology innovation at the Global Technology Symposium on Thursday, Jurvetson … Read more

The original DCS Liberty Collection from Fisher & Paykel offers three modules--a grill, a griddle with double side-burners, and a double side-burner with sink--to address all your outdoor cooking needs. The grill module's sear setting lets you … Read more
If you need to save space in your kitchen, so far there have been limited options for refrigerators. In fact, the options have been pretty much minifridges and having one of those just makes us all think of college days. But Fisher & Paykel now has the CoolDrawer on sale. The CoolDrawer is a sleek, space-saving refrigerator that can be built into an island. And, yes, it is a fridge in a drawer.
The 36-inch CoolDrawer does a little more than you might expect when you hear the words "fridge in a drawer," though. It offers a variety … Read more
DETROIT -- Greg Fisher is getting back into the coachbuilding business.
Fisher is the grandson of Fisher Body Co. co-founder Albert Fisher--who, along with his brothers, ran the car body company whose iconic coach symbol was stamped on General Motors vehicles for most of the 20th century. Fisher Body later became a GM division.
Now that insignia will adorn sleek silver buses.
"We're essentially getting the band back together after 100 years," Fisher said.
He aims to build the Fisher GTB-40 bus, a 40-foot ultralightweight hybrid that boasts twice the fuel efficiency of current hybrid buses.
It … Read more
So you want the convenience of an automatic washer, but you also want to feel like you're doing your part for the planet. Fisher & Paykel's Intuitive Eco may be for you.
The machine's sensors monitor clothing movement and adjust the wash action and the water level to get your clothes cleaner with less water and energy. The bowl only fills with enough water to saturate clothes. That concentrated water and detergent solution is recirculated via a special pump system that lets the washer use only one-third of the hot water used in other models.
Throughout the … Read more
Function and form stack together in this double drawer dishwasher from Fisher & Paykel. The benefit of having two independently controlled wash drawers is easy to imagine. Pots and pans can be collected in one drawer for heavy duty wash needs. The other drawer can then be set to handle the lighter wash needs typical of tableware.
Further flexibility is enhanced by the ability to wash smaller loads instead of wasting water and energy necessary for an entire wash. There are nine wash programs available for each drawer, and each has an eco cycle option so as to minimize water … Read more
Somewhere in between the old-school book-and-record sets (where you turned the page at the sound of the tone) and audiobooks, there was the mighty Fisher-Price Talk-To-Me Player.
I dusted mine off recently after finding it in one of the many boxes of toys I have yet to divest myself of and gave it a closer look.
Yeah, it looks kind of like a mouse, but it's essentially an upside-down, battery-powered handheld record player. You used the player with Talk-To-Me books, which had a 2-inch plastic record laminated on the bottom corner of each page. You line up the player … Read more
Two years ago, my husband and I opted for the sleek look of an electric glass cooktop. Every since then, everyone asks me, "Don't you miss cooking on gas?" Well, yeah, a little, but I love the look of the smooth cooktop and the easy cleanup. Wouldn't you know it? Along comes a "gas-in-glass" cooktop from Fisher & Paykel that would let me cook my cake and eat it, too.
The Izona CookSurface cooktop is frameless black glass with three individual gas burners that retract flush into the glass surface when not in use. … Read more
