The Razr V3xx launched on Cingular today

We mentioned earlier this month that Cingular/AT&T was going to update its 3.5G HSDPA phone lineup with the much-awaited Motorola Razr V3xx. Well the time has come because the carrier just launched the Razr V3xx today, and even more details of the phone have been released. The most notable of which is that the Razr V3xx will be Cingular's first 3.6 Mbps HSDPA handset. Previous HSDPA phones from Cingular (like the LG CU500) were capped out at 1.8 Mbps due to network limitations, but the company is planning to increase the network's … Read more

Stephen Colbert explains Cingular and deregulation

The AT&T acquisition of BellSouth and Cingular is final, and even though we haven't seen signs of it on Cingular's front page yet, AT&T will slowly roll out an ad campaign to phase out the Cingular brand. It won't be an overnight change, but much like the AT&T Wireless change to Cingular a few years back, subscribers will definitely see a change on their wireless bills within the next few months.

All this changing of hands from AT&T to the various Baby Bells to BellSouth and SBC and all … Read more

Cingular debuts Video Share

Cingular Wireless announced a new video sharing service that lets people send videos in real time over their phones. Video Share (quite the original name) isn't exactly video conferencing--the service works only one way--but you can use it to show off yourself, or whatever you're looking at, to your friends. To get it going, you just need a cell phone signal and, of course, a compatible phone. On that end, Cingular has announced two handsets that will work with the service: an updated LG CU500 and the new Samsung SGH-a717. It's in trials now; widespread availability is … Read more

Cingular gets Razr V3xx

Razr fans (yes, there are still a lot of them) can rejoice again as Cingular picks up the Motorola Razr V3xx. Though it resembles Cingular's original Razr V3 (except for the darker color), the V3xx is compatible with Cingular's growing 3.5G HSDPA network. Cingular Video support is also included, and the phone sports a dedicated Cingular TV button in the navigation array. Other features are standard for the Razr series. You'll find Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and a digital music player. Though the phone has been shipped to Cingular, Motorola said it's still not available in … Read more

Apple iPhone first thoughts

Despite the CES brouhaha happening simultaneously in Las Vegas, Steve Jobs appeared onstage at his Macworld 2007 keynote in San Francisco to introduce one of the most anticipated gadgets in years. The final unveiling of the iPhone puts to rest the plethora of speculation, gossip, and rumors that have littered the Web for the last year. Read on for our first thoughts of the ballyhooed new phone for Cingular.

Wall Street Journal predicts iPhone will run on Cingular

We're moments away from finding out if all those Apple "iPhone" rumors are true but more details on the mystery device are emerging even in the homestretch. The Wall Street Journal reported this morning that the phone will operate on Cingular's GSM network.

The specualtion is nothing new, indeed the Cingular tidbit emerged as early as last September, but with the Wall Street Journal onboard we tend to believe it. We'll know soon though so stay tuned. And in the meantime, enjoy our slide show of the Apple iPhone concepts that popped up on the … Read more

Palm and Cingular officially launch Palm Treo 750

Well, well, well, looky here: CES 2007 hasn't even officially started, and we already have a hot little product announcement: the Palm Treo 750 for Cingular. Actually, as per usual, this news wasn't much of a secret; details of the release leaked onto the Web prior to the show. Plus, we were expecting to see this Windows-based Treo drop before the holidays, but after delays with carrier certification, the launch was pushed back till after the new year, and CES is certainly the place to debut it (after all, it served as the backdrop for the Treo 700wRead more

Cingular to bring video calling, with the LG CU500v

You'll probably see more about this as CES 2007 progresses, but Cingular (or is it AT&T?) announced a new video calling service, which makes it the first carrier in the U.S. to offer live mobile video calls. The video calls are one-way for now, however, meaning only one party can stream the video while the other party watches. The first phone to feature it is the LG CU500v, which is a slightly upgraded version of the HSDPA-capable LG CU500. I received confirmation from an LG representative that existing LG CU500 users can simply upgrade the … Read more

Cingular man, we hardly knew ye

It seems not too long ago that AT&T Wireless users everywhere were complaining about the switchover to Cingular. Well, with the FCC approval last Friday of AT&T's acquisition of Bellsouth, prepare for some serious deja vu coming your way early this year. Yep, we're finally about to go through the whole rebranding rigmarole, but the other way 'round. See ya, orange Cingular man; it was nice knowing you.

Cingular customers get more cowbell

When Saturday Night Live premiered in the '70s, I bet its fans never imagined they'd be able to watch clips of the late-night sketch comedy show on their phones. But now, thanks to a deal between SNL parent NBC Universal, Broadway Video Entertainment, and Cingular Wireless, it's happening. The partnership, announced Tuesday, brings various forms of SNL media content, including original mobile-only programming, to Cingular's phones.

It's the second media-related announcement that the carrier has made this week: On Monday, Cingular began a partnership with MySpace to make the social networking site's mobile service available … Read more
