Next time you get a new card from your bank, don't be surprised if it has a keypad and an LCD on it.

Meet MasterCard's new "Display Card," which basically combines the usual credit/debit or ATM card with an authentication token. The authentication portion features a touch-sensitive keypad and LCD display -- hence the name "Display Card" -- for reflecting a one-time password (OTP).

Homeland Security chief: Banks 'under attack' by hackers

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said today that hackers are "actively" attacking some of the country's largest financial institutions.

According to a report in The Hill, America's top security official issued the warning at a Washington Post event today, but didn't specify the nature of the attacks.

Cyberthieves steal $400,000 from Bank of America

Residents and city workers in Burlington, Wash., have been told to check their accounts after $400,000 was stolen from a city bank account.

City officials believe that the security breach resulted from the infiltration of a government account used to pay workers in the town, which is about 65 miles north of Seattle.

Although the exact amount of money stolen is not fully tallied, more than $400,000 has been transferred over the past two days, according to Seattle-based KOMO News.

Sprint in no rush to buy Clearwire, report says

Don't hold your breath for a deal between Sprint Nextel and Clearwire.

With Sprint getting taken over by Japanese wireless carrier SoftBank, many believed Sprint would take full ownership of Clearwire, which provides 4G services to carriers and consumers in select markets. In addition to being Clearwire's largest customer, Sprint is the largest shareholder too, although it doesn't have control of the board.

Wells Fargo is latest bank to be hit by cyberattacks

Wells Fargo is the most recent mega-bank to be hit by a distributed denial-of-service attack. According to the Wall Street Journal, roughly 220 customers filed complaints of outages on its Web site today saying they had problems logging on.

"The amount of bandwidth that is flooding the websites is very large, much larger than in other attacks, and in a sense unprecedented," chief executive of private security firm CrowdStrike Dmitri Alperovitch told the Wall Street Journal.

A study by the World Bank and infoDev titled "Information and Communications for Development 2012" found that an estimated three-quarters of the world's people have access to a mobile device.
