Rumored Valentine's Day release for Apple's iOS 4.3

A new rumor surfacing online pegs February 14 as the release date for Apple's iOS 4.3, the newest update for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

MacStories has reported from a "reliable source" that iOS 4.3 will be available on February 14 at 10 a.m. PT.

Daring Fireball's John Gruber conjectured in his review of the Verizon iPhone that an iOS 4.3 release would make sense in the next two weeks. Verizon would have a launch and time to market its iPhone as the only one with the personal hot-spot feature (widely expected … Read more

The Valentine lovers' video game top 10

I feel sure you will find the appropriate way to express your love on Valentine's Day.

Maybe you will take your love to dinner. You will buy flowers. You might get a card or lingerie. Perhaps you will even seek out some revolutionary bondage gear. However, I feel sure that not many of you will choose to offer your love a video game experience.

It seems that not everyone is as sure as me--or, for that matter, the wise and wonderful bloggers at Deadspin, who received a most delightfully thoughtful communication from a PR company. This PR company, called … Read more

Apple pushes iTunes for Valentine's Day (podcast)

For decades people have been making mix tapes for their love interests. There was a time when that meant gathering up all your favorite CDs or vinyl albums to make a tape, but now it's easy to create a playlist in iTunes or any other music player.

This Valentine's Day, Apple is making it even easier. The company has a section on iTunes where you can purchase albums or collections of love songs for setting that special mood.

In a recorded interview, Alex Luke, Apple's director of programming and label relations, explains how you can give the … Read more

The 404 Podcast 518: Where we scarf the mic for Valentine's Day

Most guys are clueless when it comes to Valentine's Day, so we invite Lani Nguyen and Erin Lee of fashion blog Sugar Rock Catwalk to CNET's The 404 Podcast to school us on what to buy, where to go, and what NOT to wear this Sunday.

You might consider it a Hallmark holiday, but Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to show your boo extra special attention, 'cause shouldn't every day be a celebration? The girls dish some sound advice to our single and shackled listeners alike, but their most important lesson is that the thought really does count.

It sounds cliche, but we're told the overwhelming majority of women prefer a sweet gesture with thoughtful significance to the relationship over expensive jewelry. Who can afford a trip to Tiffany's in this economy, anyway? Erin and Lani offer slightly cheaper alternatives; a home-cooked dinner, a charming love letter, or a proper bouquet of flowers shows someone you care without burning a hole in your wallet.

Valentine's gifting is the easy part, but we tackle a much harder topic on the second half of the show: men's fashion dos and don'ts!

You'll have to listen to the show to get the unabridged list, but common pitfalls according to the girls include over-accessorizing (or choosing the wrong accessories), gaudy T-shirt graphics and patterns, and ill-fitting garments. Yeesh, we have so much to learn...

It's always a pleasure to get female insight on the show, so a million thank-yous to Lani and Erin for taking the time to school us this morning. If you have more fashion or Valentine's Day questions, head over to Sugar Rock Catwalk for more info or tweet your questions to @sugrrockcatwalk.

Just a reminder, there's no show on Monday for Presidents Day, but we'll be back on Tuesday with a new episode. Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Security expert warns of dangerous dating sites (podcast)

BitDefender Senior Researcher Alexandru Catalin Cosoi has nothing against using the Web to find your special someone. However, he does warn that there are sites out there that appear to be dating sites but are instead run by criminals who are out to steal your information and, perhaps, your identity.

And even if you wind up on a legitimate site, he says, there is still the risk of someone posing as a potential love interest and asking questions that could provide them with just enough information to get you into a situation that you're not going to love.
