Sorkin's Steve Jobs biopic to play out in three acts

That other Steve Jobs movie, currently being written by "West Wing" and "Newsroom" creator Aaron Sorkin, will apparently be told in three acts, the screenwriter said today.

In an onstage interview at the Hero Summit (relayed by tweets from the The Daily Beast), Sorkin detailed a bit of how the story would play out, saying it would take place across three, half hour scenes and behind the curtains at three of Apple's product launches for the first Macintosh computer, NeXT computer, and the iPod.

Jobs was a well-known showman at such events, adding an air … Read more

So Steve Jobs was a normal human being

I have a suspicion that Steve Jobs is becoming more missed rather than less.

Those who revered him -- as well as those who disliked him, his brand, and even his Levi's -- realize that tech seems a little less interesting since his departure.

Though he might have appeared overbearing, arrogant, and mercurial -- as well as inspired -- in business, there was always the notion that he was in it (and in life) for something far more interesting than money.

A beautifully told story that appeared in answer to a Quora question serves as a window to that … Read more

Jony Ive's challenge: Redesigning the human-computer interface for the masses

It shouldn't be a surprise to learn that Apple suffers from political infighting, fiefdoms, and dysfunctional relationships. What company doesn't, especially a large company full of big egos, with money to burn? And so we learned from various reports this week that CEO Tim Cook made a calculated decision to remove divisive software head Scott Forstall and hand over some of his responsibilities to hardware design guru Jony Ive.

It also shouldn't be a surprise that Ive's power base is expanding. He already had the most powerful voice among Apple executives, if you believe what … Read more

Right on Cue: Can iTunes chief fix Apple's maps and Siri?

In Apple's never-ending negotiations with record labels, iTunes boss Eddy Cue often played the good cop to Steve Jobs' bad cop. But for current CEO Tim Cook, Cue may well be Mr. Fix-It.

In a surprising executive shuffle, Apple announced Monday that Scott Forstall, who runs software development for the iPad and iPhone, would be leaving the company, along with retail chief John Browett. Cue, an Apple employee for 23 years who was chief of iTunes since it launched in 2003, has now absorbed control of the Siri voice recognition service and the disappointing Apple Maps.

How Apple stores serve as monuments to Steve Jobs

On the first anniversary of Steve Jobs' death, the popularity of Apple's products is a living testament to his special genius. But it's not the just the Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, and iPad that are his legacy. The hundreds of Apple stores are a kind of monument to his design and marketing vision and virtuosity.

With more than 390 stores in 13 countries, Jobs engineered a direct-to-customer connection and more than 1 billion people have entered an iconic Apple store since the first one opened in May of 2001. Jobs proved a multitude of critics wrong, who believed the … Read more

Apple remembers Steve Jobs on first anniversary of death

To mark the one-year anniversary of Steve Jobs' death, Apple replaced its home page today with a tribute video to its co-founder and a letter from CEO Tim Cook.

The 1-minute, 45-second video on Apple.com features black-and-white still images and quotes from Jobs.

"It's in Apple's DNA that technology alone is not enough -- it's technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our heart sing and nowhere is that more true than in these post-PC devices," Jobs' voice can be heard saying on the video, … Read more

Waiting for Apple's next big thing

Steve Jobs would surely be pleased.

A year after his death, the company he co-founded and brought back from near-ruin is on a tear. With its top executive team still in place, Apple is set to close out its most profitable year ever. Its stock, now up 65 percent for the year, gives Apple a market value far more than Google's and Microsoft's combined. The iPhone 5 is selling at a record pace, and fans continue to line up and even camp out for a chance to be one of the first with a new Apple product.

Apple in the post-Jobs era: Five hits and misses

This week marks the beginning of Apple's next financial year. It's also the first full calendar year of Apple without Steve Jobs. The technology icon passed away a year ago today.

Now's as good a time as any to take a quick look back at some of the highlights and lowlights for Apple at a time when onlookers are paying close attention to just about every detail -- something that certainly hasn't changed.

Jobs' high school girlfriend writing book about relationship

Steve Jobs' high school girlfriend and the mother of his daughter Lisa plans to write a book telling the story of her rocky relationship with the late Apple co-founder.

Chrisann Brennan is writing an untitled memoir for St. Martin's Press, part of Macmillan, The New York Times reported today. Brennan, now a painter living in the San Francisco Bay Area, met Jobs while the two were students at Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif.

The pair lived together in a cabin during the summer after they graduated, traveled to India on a spiritual quest, and attended lectures together.

Lost Steve Jobs time capsule still missing, 29 years later

Somewhere under Aspen, Colo., a time capsule containing Steve Jobs' mouse has been sitting and waiting to be unearthed. Since 1983. And no one knows where it is.

That's what blogger Marcel Brown wrote this morning, explaining that the time capsule, known as the Aspen Time Tube and buried in conjunction with the 1983 International Design Conference there, is lost and those looking for it are facing considerable odds against success.

According to a 2010 article in the Glenwood Springs (Colo.) Post Independent, the Aspen Time Tube was buried in June, 1983, and contained a number of items, ranging … Read more
