Slacker iPhone app adds station caching

The latest update to the iPhone app for online radio service Slacker, which offers a combination of personalized radio based on particular artists and curated radio stations, just became available in the iTunes Marketplace.

The main advantage of the update, announced a couple weeks ago, is offline station caching, which lets you listen to stations even when you don't have a wireless data connection. It's been available in the Android and BlackBerry versions of the Slacker app since February, and it's a welcome addition to the iPhone version.

Caching is particularly useful if you spend lots of … Read more

Crave giveaway: Cisco Valet Plus wireless router

OK, it's not too often that we give away two products from the same company in consecutive weeks, but hey, Cisco offered, so we're giving (last week's giveaway was the SlideHD pocket camcorder from Flip Video, which is owned by Cisco).

In his review, Editor Dong Ngo said the Valet Plus will change the way you think about setting up your home network. "The Cisco Valet Plus is by far the easiest wireless router to use to date," he wrote. "It also has great range, decent performance, and comes with effective wireless networking management … Read more

LG Vu Plus to support AT&T Mobile TV

As we've heard rumblings that AT&T may be discontinuing the LG Arena soon, it's good to see AT&T releasing yet another device that's capable of supporting AT&T Mobile TV, the carrier's live television service. The LG Vu Plus is an update to the LG Vu from two years ago, and features a sliding QWERTY keyboard, an HTML browser, up to 16GB microSD card storage, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA where available, GPS, and a 3.0-megapixel camera. The interface is otherwise similar to the Vu, and will be available for $149.… Read more

Palm Pre Plus, Pixi Plus head to U.K.

The Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are heading to the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, Palm announced that U.K.-based O2 will offer the WebOS smartphones starting May 28. O2 already offers the original Palm Pre, so it's no surprise that the carrier would offer the upgraded version as well as the new version of the Pixi.

Each phone is available from O2 on an 18- or 24-month contract.

Palm has been milking its Pre and Pixi platforms for over a year now. The company introduced the original Palm Pre on Sprint Nextel's network in June 2009. … Read more

The 404 582: Where we give 'em the horns (podcast)

Today's episode of CNET's The 404 Podcast kicks off with breaking news from Nintendo, which just announced a partnership with the American Heart Association.

In an effort to combat the irrefutable evidence that video games will make you fat, all Nintendo retail boxes will proudly display the AHA's heart-shaped logo in conjunction with a Web site offering healthy-lifestyle tips.

It's going to take more than a sticker to encourage kids to engage in an active lifestyle, but the AHA is willing to compromise with "active-play video games" like the Wii Fit and the Wii Vitality SensorRead more

Get a Wii MotionPlus add-on for $12.99

Want to upgrade your Wii controllers with the coveted MotionPlus accessory? Walk into any Best Buy or Target and you'll pay $20 for the privilege. If you have four controllers, well, that's an $80 bill (plus sales tax) you could probably live without.

If you're willing to go the knockoff route, Meritline has unbranded Wii MotionPlus add-ons for $12.99 shipped. At least, I think they're unbranded. Nowhere on the product page does the word Nintendo appear.

On the other hand, they sure look just like the real deal, with the replacement silicone case and everything. … Read more

AT&T Palm Pre Plus available May 16 for $150

Announced back at CTIA Spring 2010, AT&T finally revealed via its Facebook page that the Palm Pre Plus will be available starting May 16 for $149.99 with a two-year contract and after a mail-in rebate.

In addition, the carrier said that for a limited time it will throw in a Touchstone charging dock for free for any customers who purchases the smartphone in one of its retail stores. No word, however, on the pricing or availability of the Palm Pixi Plus.

Get a Nintendo Wii system + bonus game for $179

If you haven't yet pulled the trigger on a Nintendo Wii system, you should pat yourself on the back for waiting.

Originally $249, the Wii is currently on sale at Wal-Mart for $179. (Sales tax will run you a few bucks more, of course, and shipping adds around $7 unless you take advantage of free site-to-store shipping.)

The console normally sells for $199, so right off the bat you're saving $20. But wait, there's more: This deal includes a free game. And not some crummy bargain-bin title, but your choice of 13 top sellers.

To my thinking, … Read more

Wii to bundle Sports Resort, MotionPlus

Nintendo is dangling a new incentive for Wii purchases.

Starting May 9, the company will include its Wii Sports Resort game and MotionPlus controller with new consoles--with no price increase.

The Sports Resort and MotionPlus bundle sells separately for $49.99.

The Wii, which will continue to sell in the U.S. at its current price of $199, will also be offered with a new black finish. The black version will be bundled with black controllers.

Each Wii package--whether black or traditional white--will still also include the Wii remote control, a Nunchuk controller, and the Wii Sports title.

Black Wii coming; all signs point to May

A photo of a leaked GameStop circular hints at a brand-new black Wii bundle coming in May. Apparently an employee of the game retailer tipped off Kotaku saying the advertisement came along with instructions to hold the information until May 4.

Nintendo has told us the company refuses to comment on rumor or speculation, but it does seem a bit ridiculous that someone would go out of his way to forge an ad detailing the black console. Fanning the flames even more comes word that a subsequent corporate e-mail was sent out warning GameSpot employees to keep information about products … Read more
