Aliens save a Phantom from vapor

We're not sure if Alienware's decision to offer Phantom Entertainment's Lapboard gives the home theater PC input mash-up any credibility, but it definitely means that Phantom Entertainment, nee Infinium Labs, has remarkable staying power.

In brief, way back in 2004, Phantom Entertainment/Infinium Labs announced a Phantom Console designed to bring PC gaming to the living room by pairing it with an online delivery service. Infinium even got so far as to lure former Xbox co-creator Kevin Bachus into its ranks as CEO. Then reports surfaced questioning the legitimacy of the company. The console never materialized, Bachus quit, … Read more

Xbox 360 gets updates as rivals swarm

While the general public has taken kindly to the Xbox 360's dashboard, nothing inspires change more than last-minute panic. Perhaps sensing big things on the way from the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft has an pretty hefty UI update (85 new features) ready to deploy today.

The biggest new feature on the way is the addition of the ability to output 1080p--we'll have to fish out our VGA adaptor to test this when it hits, as most HDTVs can't output 1080p via component. Besides providing a higher output for games, the Xbox 360 will … Read more

100GB XBox 360 hard drive a fake?

Yes, someday there will be a larger capacity hard drive for the XBox 360. But if you got your hopes up that it was coming soon, those hopes might now be dashed.

It appears that image of the 100GB hard drive accessory on Engadget is a fake--at least that's what Engadget-rival Gizmodo has reported. Naturally, if we hear differently, we'll update you. But for now, all bets are off the new drive. Damn, it hurts.

'Zelda: Twilight Princess' canned for GameCube?

As soon as it was announced that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would be a Wii launch title, the GameCube version, which started production back in early 2005, took a backseat. Now, it may not even finish the trip. Joystiq is reporting that major gaming retailers are not carrying what many believed would be the plucky li'l console's swan song (a similar rumor is making the rounds regarding the Japanese version, too). We here at Crave decided to conduct our own independent investigation--in other words, pester our local GameStop clerks--and found out that the title is still … Read more

A crib-worthy sound system

Attention, babies: Forget about that played-out wind-up lullaby music. Instead, demand a veritable sound system for your crib.

Tell Mommy and Daddy about the iCrib Sound System. Brought to us by the good folks at Munchkin Inc., the award-winning battery-powered stereo system mounts on the railing of most cribs and works with most MP3 players, including the iPod shown here. In addition to the built-in volume limiter, the $30 iCrib features a soothing night-light that changes colors and a 15-, 30-, or 60- minute timer. Oh, to be a baby once again!

New 100GB hard drive for Xbox 360?

This isn't exactly earth-shattering news, but the word out in Korea, where Microsoft is holding its X06 conference, is that a higher-capacity 100GB hard drive is on the way for the Xbox 360. Engadget is reporting that the drive will be available in March of next year--at least in Korea--but no pricing has been set. Korean site Game Inside is the orginal source of the info, but it seems to be accurate enough, considering the hard drive was just one of many new--or at least newish--Xbox 360 accessories that found their way into an actual PowerPoint presentation. (If anybody … Read more
