Photos: Audi metroproject Quattro concept

Audi's metroproject concept car uses a unique take on the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, with gasoline engine-powered front wheels and electrically driven rear wheels. The car can operate with gas or electric power alone, achieving a range of over 60 miles on the latter. Its infotainment unit can be removed, yet will still control the car through a wireless network. The future is indeed now. Audi showed the metroproject off at the 2007 Tokyo auto show, and we fought through the crowds to get pictures.

Audi A1 photos and details revealed

Mini? Mini who?

Audi has released photos of its Audi A1, aka the Audi Metroproject Quattro concept car that it plans to debut at the 2007 Tokyo auto show next week.

The Audi wins hands-down in terms of a sophisticated and elegant look for a sub-compact, inexpensive car compared with its intended rival, the BMW Mini Cooper.

The Audi A1 makes BMW's Mini Cooper look like Minnie Mouse, a colorful, fun and quirky friend you once thought was cute as a child. But now that you're an adult your interests lie more toward Heidi Klum or Seal.

Audi A5 sighted in San Francisco

While testing out an Infiniti G37 on the streets of San Francisco, we sidled up next to an Audi A5, a car that won't be available in the U.S. until next spring. We got our camera phone out and snapped a few pictures, difficult to do in the heavy traffic. There seemed to be a little bit of fate involved, as we were driving the G37, the newest coupe from Infiniti, and the A5 will be the newest coupe from Audi. Both cars were red and have similar designs, although the G37 has more distinct front fenders.

Audi shows its guts

Audi's cutaway restoration of the 1925 Audi Type M is complete, Audi announced Thursday.

The unusual restoration of Audi's first six-cylinder car, which Audi commissioned the German company Fahrzeugrestaurierung Rosenow to turn into a cutaway model, took about 4,500 hours to complete over an almost four-year period.

"Half the car is double the work," Peter Spillner, the owner of Fahrzeugrestaurierung Rosenow, said in a statement.

The car's transformation is significant because it's highly unusual for a car as rare as this one--with only four known surviving models left in the world--to be offered … Read more

Video: 2008 Audi A8

The swan song for the current A8 brings a pretty major refresh. Audi's biggest sedan gets a new grille treatment plus some of the innovative tech launched in other models, such as Side Assist. This technology flashes a warning if you are about to change lanes when another car is in your blind spot.

While new car launches were few at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show, some were significant. Mini brought around the Clubman, a stretched version of the Cooper. Volkswagen showed off its new crossover, the Tiguan, and Audi had a significant model update for the A4. Dodge also came to play, putting a crossover called Journey on the floor.

2007 Frankfurt auto show: Day two roundup

The new models and concept cars just keep on coming at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show. One notable trend at this year's event is the willingness of luxury German automakers to finally embrace hybrid technology, with Audi, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes all either announcing production hybrids or showing off advanced hybrid concepts. Meanwhile, the 2009 Jaguar XF shows that concept technology can make it off the auto show floor, as the latest Big Cat retains its futuristic shifter for production. On the subject of cabin gadgetry, automotive equipment manufacturer Siemens VDO showed off its next-generation in-car touch screen technology, … Read more

Audi slips press photos of RS 6 Avant

Audi revealed photos of its zaftig RS 6 Avant to the press on Wednesday as a teaser to the official reveal at the Frankfurt auto show next week.

The car will have a 5.2 liter V10 engine with FSI direct injection and twin turbochargers capable of 580 horsepower. (That's a lot of power.) The car can go from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

"It is the most powerful model in the current Audi range...with the exception of pure racing cars like the Le Mans-winning Audi R10 TDI," Audi said in a statement.

Audi A4 photos show bling LEDs

Audi has released photos and some spec info on its new A4, which will officially debut at the 2008 Frankfurt auto show in September.

Most notable to tech enthusiasts may be the optional xenon headlights that include 14 LED lights. These are "daytime driving lights," aka LED bling, for your car. Audi refers to them as "wings." I think they look more like eyelashes. You can see what they look liked turned on below.

As for the goodies for the driver who's into automation, the new A4 will include lane departure warning, blind spot detectionRead more
