Vuze/Azureus is the first torrent client to launch a counter-attack against Internet service providers that have been dropping and forging data packets sent by end-users. This volley in what might become the torrent wars of 2008 is a plug-in for the Azureus torrent client called the Network Status Monitor.

If IMing friends from mobile to mobile is faster and cheaper than sending SMS messages, then IMing photos, videos, and music clips is even better.

Fring announced this week an update to its Symbian 9.1 and Symbian 9.2 offerings (sorry, Windows Mobile) that lets registered members swap files. As Power Downloader sifted through an enormous amount of e-mails recently, he ran across one from a friend who wanted some software advice. Peer-to-peer file-sharing generally involves free software, and much of the technology is certainly still legal in the United States (for now). However, once you start trading copyrighted material like music and movies, that's where legal problems arise. If you're trafficking, uploading or downloading copyrighted digital material without consent of the owner, you are infringing. Miro improves search and torrenting

The open-source, DRM-free video platform called Miro (download for Windows and Mac) has just released an upgrade with two small but useful improvements. A new search feature lets you search all available sites simultaneously, and torrent support has been greatly improved.
