Lenovo is making some changes. In the space of less than a week, the Chinese PC maker has announced it is dropping the IBM logo from its Think-branded products, and now it is entering a new, if not exactly exciting, segment of the PC market: workstations.
The newest member of the family will be called the ThinkStation, and Lenovo says its debut marks the first new Think-branded product since it bought IBM's PC business two years ago.

The electric car company back in January said it was going to sell its battery pack--composed of thousands of lithium-ion battery cells--to third party manufacturers. Another day, another mystery in the electric car industry.
EnerDel, which makes a lithium-ion battery for electric cars and hybrids, announced Monday that it has been anointed the "supplier of choice" By Think Nordic, the guys coming out with an electric town car. EnerDel says its battery will keep the car going for 100 miles before a charge is needed.
EnerDel will deliver prototypes to Think in March 2008 and pre-production parts by July 2008. If all works well, the contract could be worth $70 million, according to EnerDel.

MTV has just launched a new social-networking community for youth activism, ThinkMTV, which is designed to network members both online and offline around causes ranging from climate change to HIV/AIDS. While as a standalone network it's not particularly momentous or innovative (although few names come to mind in the "social networking with a social conscience" space that specifically target the MTV demographic), ThinkMTV is worth noting because it's the first major operation to be unveiled as part of MTV parent company Viacom's new Flux social networking initiative.

We're admittedly confused by the press release for Lenovo's ThinkPad Reserve that went across the wires this morning. We already wrote about the leather case, the white-glove service and support, and the (ahem) $5,000 price tag in June. The formerly secretive marketing Web site has had plenty of specs available for months. But today, it seems, marks the official unveiling of the fancy-pants limited-edition laptop, which was created to celebrate the ThinkPad's 15th anniversary.
Norway's Think Global has received $60 million more in advance of the launch of its electric town car later this fall.
The company hopes to resurrect an electric town car created and later abandoned by Ford. Ford spent over $50 million designing and testing the car. The company will release the car in Norway and England in the fall and perhaps bring it to the states in 2008.
Think already raised $25 million. New investors include Rockport Capital Partners and DFJ Element.

Lenovo plans to announce Tuesday that all of its X-, T- and R-series computers with Santa Rosa platforms will qualify for the Energy Star 4.0 rating that goes into effect on July 20.
The Energy Star program, which is overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, revised its voluntary set of energy efficiency standards for computers for the first time in over a decade. Among the standards required to garner an Energy Star 4.0 sticker is a decreased power consumption while a computer is idle.
