AT&T to offer Nokia Lumia 900 for $100 on March 18

Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop wasn't kidding when he said at the launch of the new Lumia 900 Windows Phone at CES that pricing for the device would be competitive.

The new Lumia 900, which had been announced earlier this month at CES for AT&T's network, will sell for $99.99 with a two-year service contract starting March 18, sources with knowledge of the launch plans told CNET. The Boy Genius Report first reported the pricing and launch date of the device as part of a leaked road map from AT&T the site said … Read more

Nokia may have shipped more than 1M Lumia phones in 2011

Nokia's big push to re-establish itself in the modern smartphone world appears to be paying early dividends The company may have shipped as many as 1.3 million units of its Windows Phone Lumia handsets last year, says Bloomberg.

Surveying the usual range of analysts, Bloomberg found that forecasts varied from 800,000 to 2 million Lumia phones, with only one person estimating less than 1 million, resuling in an average of 1.3 million.

But those numbers refer to the number of units shipped to mobile carriers and retailers rather than actual sales to consumers. Sales to smartphone … Read more

Snoozing my way through CES

Editors' note: This is a guest column. See Roger Entner's bio below.

This year's CES was pretty dismal for anyone interested in wireless. Sure, AT&T had some good stuff and the Microsoft launched the LTE Windows Phone 7. But other than that, most people would've been better off hitting the snooze button.

Last year, by contrast, AT&T and especially Verizon Wireless made a huge splash with 4G announcements. There was so much excitement that I thought it might upstage the CTIA Show in the spring, which could have faded into oblivion like so … Read more

Congratulations, Nokia, now get to work

LAS VEGAS--With Windows Phone 7, we've spent a lot of time waiting.

We started by waiting for Microsoft to upgrade from the stodgy Windows Mobile. Then, we waited for the first Windows Phone 7 (WP7) handsets before waiting again for decent apps. And finally, once we had all of those things we waited for WP7 to really take off.

Granted, we're still waiting on that last point, but at CES 2012, Nokia may have shown us the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.

On Monday, during an afternoon crowded with other press conferences, Nokia pulled in … Read more

Microsoft could help Nokia sell 37 million phones in 2012

Betting heavily on Microsoft to revive its fortunes, Nokia is in a position to sell as many as 37 million Windows Phone handsets this year and 64 million in 2013, says a Morgan Stanley report cited by AllThingsD.

Of course, much of that forecast depends on just how hard Microsoft will work to promote its partnership with Nokia.

The two companies already reportedly plan to spend $20 million to market their new lineup. Nokia has been pushing its Lumia phones, with the 710 now available through T-Mobile, the 800 selling in Europe, and the LTE-compliant 900 sailing to the U.… Read more
