Nintendo is giving fanboy filmmakers a chance to shine, with its Short Cuts Showcase contest. Grab a camcorder (or animation software) and produce a Nintendo-themed video, then submit it to the contest site by June 6. The three best videos will be screened at Rockefeller Center's film showcase, June 19-22. The creator of the top-rated video will receive $10,000 and a trip to New York City for the screening, a meeting Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Craig Haktoff, plus a Nintendo Wii, a DS Lite, and games for both systems. The second and third place winners will get a … Read more
We don't know if Paris Hilton had anything to do with this, but we wouldn't be surprised. Nintendo was apparently so enthralled with her Swarovski puppy design that it's decided to extend the frightful concept to other DS Lite models, tarring the image of the venerable brothers Mario among other characters. Luxurylaunches reports that each of the custom items, on display at the Nintendo World store in Manhattan, is covered with $600 of the infernal stones. The good news: They're not for sale.
A small group of spy shots have surfaced on Chinese forum tgfcer.com, depicting what looks to be a large group of black Xbox 360s on the tail end of a production line. Also in the photos is a shot of the detachable hard drive, which pretty clearly looks to be 120GB, confirming several rumors that a new premium SKU for Microsoft's gaming console is forthcoming. The only thing missing from the shots is the back of the console, which would validate the claims an HDMI port was on the way.
For early adopters of the system (myself included), … Read more
If you happen to be visiting Japan this spring, you may see some unusually long lines outside stores on April 26. That's when Nintendo is planning to debut a DS Lite special edition to coincide with the release of the anticipated Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, according to Plastic Bamboo. The special DS will initially be sold as a limited-edition bundle with the role-playing game, but it's unclear whether the laser-etched device will be available on its own later on. Either way, you can expect to see the usual sequence of events: the rush of fanboys, Flickr photos … Read more
Nintendo has announced that it's sold more than 10 million Nintendo DS and DS Lite systems in America, an average of 9 every minute since the system's United States launch in November 2004. According to Nintendo of America frontman Reggie Fils-Aime, Americans can't get enough of the DS.
"More than 5 million people joined the ranks as Nintendo DS owners in America last year alone," Fils-Aime said. "And right now, they're all saying the same thing--Give me more!'"
While I'm loathe to take any marketer at his word (No offense, Reggie), … Read more
It's a problem that so many people must face these days: what kind of stylus to use with your Swarovski crystal-encrusted DS Lite. Not just any stylus will do, of course, especially when it's being used with an item reportedly designed by Paris Hilton.
Luxurylaunches says this Nintendo DS Lite gold stylus "gives the feel and performance of the most luxurious stylus on the market in the present day. And it's apparently real 18 carat, not some cheesy plated product, and can work with any PDA. That means more bang for your buck (if you can … Read more
The latest victim: The Nintendo DS Lite. Gadget Candy reports that a version of the gaming device encrusted with 1,200 stones--all pink, no less--has been spotted at the Multipazz boutique in London for 200 pounds (that's nearly $400, for those of us who don't get out much). The kicker? It was apparently designed by none other than Paris Hilton herself, which would explain the dog.
Nintendo put its portable game devices on a diet awhile back, and it paid off: The slimmer, sleeker DS Lite would make Jenny Craig proud. And like any svelt body, it deserves to be shown off in profile--as in this "Dragon Charging Stand." The Dragon, which looks more like a credit card slot than a power dock, accentuates the DS Lite's trim physique even further with a glowing red light around its edges. Alas, the stand is more about appearance than substance as Ubergizmo points out, for it doesn't indicate when the DS Lite is fully … Read more
