MacBook redesign leaked? Probably not

Are these really leaked pics of a redesigned MacBook, widely expected later this year? Probably not, as Apple has always done an excellent job of keeping its new designs under wraps. But the Interwebs are abuzz with this series of shots that generally fit in with the conventional wisdom--that the MacBook line is getting an aluminum makeover, to look more like the high-end MacBook Pro.

Mac accessories store AppleOwner.com and a Taiwanese site called apple.pro are both showing off the allegedly leaked shots, which don't offer much in the way of detail, besides an aluminum chassis with the MacBook name stamped into it. Check out the pics for yourself after the break and let us know if you think they're legit or fake.… Read more

IT managers worried about data leaks, survey shows

IT managers are almost as worried about what sensitive corporate data is leaking out of the company as they are about malware infections from the Web, according to a new survey.

Nearly 40 percent of IT staff at mid to large companies in North America said they believed that unintentional leaks by employees are a bigger threat to the security of their data than spyware or malicious software, according to a survey of 109 IT decision makers conducted over the Web last month by Osterman Research for FaceTime, a company that sells tools that allow companies to easily monitor and … Read more

More leaks on the new Dell Studio line

When will our pals at Dell learn that pretty much every new product of theirs is going to leak? If it's not FCC filings or foreign subsidiary sales materials, then it's CEOs wandering around with prototype products in their hands.

We've got some more details on the new Studio line of laptops from Dell, courtesy of the guys at Engadget. The Studio line is apparently aimed at mid-high-end consumers, sitting between the Inspiron and XPS lines. An internal description says:

"The Studio line is a more feature rich version of the existing Inspiron line. This series … Read more

Dell's new laptops leak (again)

Surprising virtually no one, Dell has some top-secret new laptops coming out, and there's already a bunch of leaked docs about them floating around the Interwebs this morning.

The mainstream Inspiron line, currently sitting at the 1420, 1525, and 1720 level, is getting an upgrade with three new models--the 14-inch 1435, the 15-inch 1535, and the 17-inch 1735, according to Engadget. (At least they stick to a simple, relatively obvious naming system--now can someone please explain to me why HP's 14-inch laptop is called the 2700?)

These look like they have a tapered design and prominent side hinge … Read more

Dell's next tablet laptop leaked

If you want to get people's attention (and your product doesn't have an Apple logo stamped on it), one of the best ways to do that is to release a convertible tablet laptop. Although, while these devices offer something different from your run-of-the-mill laptop, and everyone loves reading about them, we've never met anyone who actually uses one on a regular basis.

Still, we were intrigued when Dell made a tablet play late last year with its Latitude XT, and it seems as if this business-oriented system was popular enough to warrant a sequel. Engadget has some leaked specifications and photographsRead more

A leak-proof commuter cup? We'll see

OK, so this isn't a gadget per se. But we're willing to bet that more than a few caffeinated Cravers out there are interested in a commuter cup that's supposedly guaranteed not to spill even when tipped over, so you can concentrate on more important things. "When the lid is closed, analysts were able to turn the commuter cup upside down and shake it vigorously without a single drop escaping," according to its product description.

These "analysts" (we'd love to see their resumes) apparently also concluded that it's the easiest to … Read more

Dell's E-series Latitude leaks

While Dell has made great strides in the past year with its consumer laptop lines (you know, those nifty Inspironand XPSsystems), the company's business line, known as Latitude, has remained pretty uninspiring.

All that's about to change, according to the latest from the rumor mill. Engadget kicks it off with reports of upcoming 12-, 13-, 14-, and 15-inch models, all with LED backlit displays. It appears to be clad in a brushed metal chassis. Other purported parts include eSATA and DisplayPort connections.

No price or availability details just yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Dell's new 15-inch laptop leaks--in Australia!

The sweet spot in Dell's current catalog of laptops has always been the excellent 14-inch Inspiron 1420 model, matched only by the snazzy XPS line--the 13-inch M1330 and 15-inch M1530. Somewhere in there, Dell's basic Inspiron 15-inch--long the bread and butter of the company's consumer laptops, got lost in the shuffle.

Now comes word from down under that Dell's Australian Web site is offering a successor to the current Inspiron 1520, in the form of the Inspiron 1525 (originality in naming has never been Dell's strong suit), which seems to be a slightly slimmer version … Read more
