World's priciest iPad costs $1.2 million

My iPad 2 is looking a little pale and shabby in comparison to the $1.2 million diamond-encrusted iPad from Camael Diamonds. The company calls it the world's most expensive iPad, and I'm not going to argue with that.

For do-it-yourselfers who want to bedazzle their own iPads, this only requires 1 kilo of 18 carat gold and 300 carats worth of perfect diamonds. Black diamonds grace the home button and Apple logo on the back. Just pop down to your local jeweler to pick up all the supplies you need.

Camael will happily customize your gazillion-dollar iPad with the gems of your choice. This is a smart way to go, as it would be horribly embarrassing to accidentally pick up someone else's look-alike diamond-slathered iPad at Starbucks.… Read more

Custom-fitted bikinis from 3D printers

Tailoring clothes could be the next big thing for 3D printers, as designers have found a way to "print" custom swimwear. Jenna Fizel and Mary Haung of Continuum Fashion used nylon discs of varying sizes connected by springs to create bikinis that "flow" around the contours of the body.

You can currently order "printed" swimwear through Shapeways' online store. While bikini sizes are limited, the founders are working on a system that lets customers send in body scans and get their clothing "printed" according to their body shape.

Like/Dislike cufflinks a Facebook fashion statement

The number of folks who like Facebook's "Like" function is becoming one of the strangest meta-memes of the year. Earlier this week an Israeli couple named their newborn daughter "Like" after the world's most recognizable thumb, and now I've discovered an ancillary trend--"Like" as a fashion accessory.

Cufflinks, Inc., offers this pair of spiffyLike/Dislike links for those of us who have let social-networking addictions spill over into all facets of life. Just be careful to always put the "Like" link on your primary handshaking wrist, especially when meeting her dad for the first time.

Then again, if you're out to flaunt a little more attitude but still fly the Zuckerberg flag, try the "f me" design shown below.

The links cost 50 bucks a pair, and because you're all about instant gratification, the company even promises to ship them out the same day, if you order before 3 p.m.… Read more

Green Lantern USB drives protect your universe

Green Lantern fans, there's no need to freeze yourself! It's just another 30 days until the movie comes out, and in the meantime I have something that may ease the pain of waiting.

Mimoco, a maker of quirky designer USB thumbdrives, has teamed with DC Entertainment to announce a new line of drives based on Green Lantern Corps characters. Basically, they're little action figures of Hal Jordan, Tomar-Re, Kilowog, and Sinestro that can also work as USB flash drives.

The USB 2.0 drives come in capacities ranging from 2GB to 16GB. Apart from the figures themselves, which will be enough for most of you comics fanboys to adore for a month, there's also character-specific content preloaded on the drives, including wallpapers, avatars, screensavers, and other digital extras.

The Mimoco Green Lantern USB thumbdrives are available now starting at $23 for the 2GB version. The 16GB version costs around $60. Go get a couple and make yourself and your nerdy friends happy.… Read more

Scan my bosom with ScanMe's QR code T-shirts

QR codes aren't just for boring business marketing. We recently checked out Barcode Gallery, a company that sells QR codes (two-dimensional bar codes that link to messages or Web sites) as wall art. Now you can emblazon those codes on a custom T-shirt for a high-tech fashion statement with ScanMe's shirt-printing service.

ScanMe creates a custom QR code just for you. It links to your Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter profiles and can include your latest status message, a way to e-mail you, or even your phone number.

Anyone who wants a modicum of privacy can control how much information the scan pulls up. That's smart, because the people you want checking out your LinkedIn account usually aren't the same as the people you want to be friends with on Facebook.

These T-shirts offer more of a fashion statement than a mere black and white collection of boxes within a square. Some of the designs veer off into Threadless territory with the bar code buried within a Space Invaders-style illustration or coming from the mouth of a blue Twitter bird.

ScanMe is a United Kingdom company, but it offers free worldwide postage on the shirts. Prices start around $22 and range up to around $35 per shirt.… Read more

Control these robot cat ears with your brain

How do you know if a girl is interested in you? If she's wearing Necomimi robot cat ears, you'll know right away. Whether you'd be interested in girls who wear cat ears is another matter.

A Japanese group called Neurowear has been promoting this high-tech headband, which consists of a pair of motorized, fuzzy feline ears and a brain wave sensor.

The ears feature in Japan's otaku subcultures centered on anime and manga fandom. They're seen in catgirl outfits worn by cosplay enthusiasts.

It's easy to find cat-ear headbands in Japan, but Neurowear has taken them a step beyond. The Necomimi forehead brain wave sensor makes the ears stand up when the wearer concentrates. They turn down in response to a relaxed state.

In the rather ridiculous PR video below, the ears stand up when a woman passes a man who catches her eye. Meanwhile, guys have also been trying Necomimi, as seen in the vid here, shot at a recent demo in Tokyo. … Read more

D-Link helps shift IPv6 readiness to a high gear

As World IPv6 Day gets closer, D-Link today unveiled its IPv6 Readiness, a new Web site dedicated to helping educate people on getting ready for the new Internet Protocol.

World IPv6 Day, on June 8, is when a few Internet companies, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Akamai, and Limelight Networks, will offer their content over IPv6 for a 24-hour test run.

When the Internet was first designed in the early '80s, the 4.3 billion addresses provided by the current Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), seemed more than enough. Nowadays, with the rapid penetration of the Internet to so many devices, … Read more

Japan bra lifts, um, spirits with words of support

We have uplifting news from Triumph International, the company that brought us the solar-panel bra, the husband-hunter bra, and the environmentally minded No Plastic Shopping Bag Bra, among other novelty lingerie.

Today, on the two-month anniversary of the Japanese quake and tsunami, the company unclasped the "Support Japan Bra," a strapless bustier and matching skirt covered in encouraging messages to disaster victims delivered from around the globe.

Now, it's probably safe to assume novelty lingerie isn't a priority for the many people still reeling from the epic natural disasters. Still, encouraging words from the global community, be they delivered by relief agencies, social media, or brassieres, will hopefully remind victims that they're still very much in hearts and minds the world over. … Read more

'South Park' MusicSkins: Cartman on your phone

Television shows have a way of escaping from the small screen into the real world. Now you can share your devotion to the foul-mouthed young residents of South Park, Colo., on your smartphone, laptop, iPod, or tablet with MusicSkins' new line of "South Park" images.

There is a reason for this special skinning occasion. "South Park" just arrived for its 15th season (that's a long time to be stuck in fourth grade). Choose from character portraits or memorable scenes such as the "Last Pizza Party." Am I the only one wishing Mecha-Streisand and the Loch Ness Monster were options?

MusicSkins are made from glossy 3M ControlTac vinyl for a tight, but removable, fit. Expect to pay around $15 to $20 per skin.… Read more
