Driven by the allure of the iPad, tablet PCs will surpass Netbooks in sales in just two years, according to a report released Thursday by Forrester Research.
In the U.S. alone, the burgeoning tablet industry is expected to sell 20.4 million units in 2015 compared with just 3.5 million this year, a compound annual growth rate of 42 percent, says Forrester's report "The U.S. Consumer PC Market in 2015." Samsung will release its Galaxy Tab tablet no later than the third quarter of this year, revealed J.K. Shin, president of the company's mobile communications division, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published Tuesday.
Based on the few specs and a photo leaked earlier this month, the Galaxy Tab will sport a high-resolution 7-inch display, making it more compact than Apple's iPad with its 9.7-inch screen. Apple is planning to launch an Apple Store application for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, according to the Boy Genius Report and MacRumors. Citing only "sources," the publications claim the app will be available for free, launch on Tuesday, and allow consumers to purchase products from their mobile devices.
