No need to unzip for your iPod

Form follows function in fashion, too, not just architecture. Or, more likely in this case, form follows the money that a function like this will rake in.

Designer extraordinaire Ermenegildo Zegna has announced the Zegna iJacket as part of its Spring 2007 ZegnaSport line. (The collection is not yet on the Zegna Web site.) The lightweight windbreaker, which will come in bomber or three-quarter length, has an inside breast pocket, connection for an iPod, and buttons on the left sleeve to let you control it without having to unzip the jacket.

Razr jumps on the red bandwagon

Along with the red iPod Nano announced yesterday, Motorola has jumped on the AIDS charity bandwagon with the luscious red Razr, available from Sprint. As with the red iPod, this is part of Bono and Bobby Shriver's recent Red initiative to help combat HIV and AIDS in Africa. This new red Razr will be available in November from Sprint, and you can get it for $304.99 retail or $64.99 with a two-year service agreement.

Stay on Bono's good side with a red iPod

Oh yeah, and do good, too. Today, Apple sneaked onto its store a special edition fire-engine red nano branded with the PRODUCT(RED) logo on the back. Apple donates $10 from each sale to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa as part of the (RED) campaign, which Bono and friends created "to engage the private sector in the fight against AIDS in Africa."

Sony's Walkman love child

Early this morning, Sony announced its latest digital audio player, the NW-S700, and dubbed it the best-sounding Walkman yet. This is apparently thanks to the device's built-in noise-canceling technology. Noise-canceling headphones are nothing new, but a noise-canceling MP3 player is not something I've had the chance to meet...and I thought I might not still: most reports cite only the Japanese release of the NW-S700. However, the press release I received clearly lists U.S. pricing ($169 for the 1GB version, $199 for 2GB) and availability (November).

Bono, Oprah and a red iPod

Stop the presses: a red iPod? World diplomat and U2 frontman Bono will introduce the new crimson model during tomorrow's Oprah show to benefit the singer's Product Red program, according to AppleInsider.com.

The new iPod will reportedly be a red version of the latest 4GB iPod Nanos introduced in September. The Chicago Tribune reported that Winfrey bought 10 of the red iPod Nanos during a promotional appearance at Apple's Chicago retail store. (To which we respond: Only 10?)

iPod accessories magnate DLO has just premiered its Care Kit for iPod, a "three-step scratch and cleaning solution" for the world's most popular player. Packaged like a product you'd find in Sephora, the $30 Care Kit includes a daily cleaner, a fine scratch remover, and a heavy scratch remover. Additionally, you get a few cleaning cloths, including one with microfibers). The kit claims to get most scratches out of worn and torn iPods (but not their metallic backside) and preserve the pure complexions of new iPods--after all, these are chemicals we're talking about here.

Sony tries the Walkman again (yawn)

It's kind of pathetic, when you think about it. Here's the Sony Walkman, once the king of all portable music players, now left scrambling for crumbs left in the iPod's wake.

The latest innovation is a line of new miniature Walkman players that come with noise-canceling technology embedded in both the music player itself and its headphones. It's not that this is a bad idea; it's just not exactly the kind of killer product that can get Sony back in the game.
