By George: A new iPod radio with a wireless twist

UPDATE: For a complete hands-on evaluation and new pricing information on the George, check out the CNET review.

Macworld isn't until next week, but the cavalcade of new iPod accessory announcements is already getting started. Meet George: he's a high-end iPod speaker system with a built-in AM/FM clock radio, and he's the debut product from Massachusetts-based Chestnut Hill Sound. But what sets George (or is it "the George?") apart from the litany of similar products is its wireless remote. More than just a standard clicker, the George remote has a free-spinning knob and a … Read more

Say hello to my iPod's little friends

Christmas saw fit to deliver unto me an iPod. I feel like I'm living in the future now! With one now on my shelf, my eye has turned towards the glorious world of accessories, and what accessory can I not seem to live without? Why speakers of course! For maximum portability I've got a hankering for the Klipsch iGroove. With a nice design and hard to find woofer and tweeter combination, this is the set of speakers that I'll be going after in the new year.

Another Hello Kitty item makes our day

As depressing as it is, Crave has developed a love-hate relationship with Hello Kitty. (It's depressing because we have any relationship at all with Hello Kitty.)

No matter what the direction of our bipolar moods, the day just doesn't seem complete without posting something regarding said feline. So we pass along this item from Chip Chick on a Hello Kitty clock radio and iPod charger combo, which can play MP3 tunes and link to your TV set, as well as control your sleep patterns. That means you can have the evil cat with you at all times, which … Read more

Whatever it looks like, we don't want it

We'd been staring at this photo for awhile, trying to figure out what it looked like. Then it dawned on us: an ice cream maker. (We could have said a toilet, but that might be rude.)

Having solved that burning mystery, we then turned our attention to a more useful question: Does anyone really need an iPod FM transmitter specifically designed to fit in a car cup holder? The answer then came in a post by Newlaunches, which reported that the "Trinity" is made by the same company that gave us the "Lumi Flasher." Need … Read more

Keyboard as studio apartment

If you live in real-estate hell--as in New York or San Francisco--then every square inch of living space can be the difference between solvency and homelessness. That's just one practical reason for the "KB-Dock" keyboard, which Chip Chick says "tries to pack in everything but the kitchen sink."

In addition to its most obvious feature, a detachable iPod dock, the keyboard includes 14 media hotkeys and a 10-in-1 memory card reader. If it just included a Murphy bed, it could qualify as a Manhattan studio.

Not all ears are created equal

It's take a few decades, but the technology industry is finally figuring out that one size definitely does not fit all. Recently, for example, we've seen mice and keyboards that come in mix-and-match sizes, even breaking apart in some cases.

But why limit this concept to the desktop? ezGear is applying that strategy from the neck up--starting, of all places, with the ears. Its new "ezEars SX50" iPod buds come with rubber earpieces in three sizes designed to custom-fit your aural cavity.

A snugger fit is a good thing from an aesthetic standpoint as well, to … Read more

iPod lights to irritate us all from afar

What is it that makes accessory manufacturers think that media players need flashing lights? Griffin recently came out with its "Disko" case in all its blinking glory, much to the dismay of some true Apple loyalists. But at least that product had some practical protective use.

The "Lumi Flasher" by Japan's Trinity, on the other hand, is simply lights for the sake of lights, with one white and four red LEDs that plug into the iPod's dock connector. It does include a "flashlight mode," according to Newlaunches, but we're not sure … Read more

iPod listeners, can you hear me?

With so many headphone brands and types to choose from, it can be hard to select the right match for your MP3 player. There are the typical considerations--color, size, quality, style, features--but what about hearing health? With so many people investing in MP3 players, it's about time we consider the effects headphones are having on all of those ears.

The popular Apple iPod comes with in-ear headphones, also known as earbuds or earphones, as well as volume-limiting software within the latest updates. Some audiologists argue that in-ear headphones are actually better for hearing health, as they lie closer to … Read more

Another iPod case? Shocking

If nothing else, Ministry of Sound deserves credit for combining two of the most hyperactive cottages industries in all of consumer technology: iPod cases and iPod speakers. The "Mi-Sound iPod Case" straps to your arm too, which means you can share your music out loud with the rest of the world--whether they want to hear it or not. But if you must offend others, at least this one doesn't have the hideous design of the "Blue Beatz."

iPod speakers for the Pastafarians among us

If you aren't familiar with the phenomenon of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, you might want to skip this post. But if you're like a few of us at Crave who are totally down with the "Pastafarian" thing, you might be interested in the Tangle DNA speakers, which bear a remarkable resemblance to the FSM's noodly appendages. Plus, they can twist and bend any way you want!

Now that's intelligent design.
