Review: Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus portable iPod/iPhone speaker system

Logitech makes several iPod/iPhone audio systems, ranging in size and price from about $70 to about $200. The company's Pure-Fi Express Plus rolls in around $100 and it's designed to be a simple, compact, stereo speaker with a built-in clock and alarm that can be used at home or taken on the road, so long as you're willing to splurge on a set of six AA batteries that power the unit when you cut the cord.

Logitech acquires SightSpeed

Logitech announced Tuesday that it has paid about $30 million in cash to acquire SightSpeed, a maker of cross-platform video chat and calling software. It's a logical acquisition for Logitech, which includes video cameras among its large portfolio of peripherals for PCs.

Berkeley, Calif.-based SightSpeed was founded in 2001 and has 25 employees. SightSpeed's video communications solution is based on the session initiation protocol (SIP) and offers 30 frame-per-second video and an integrated instant messaging service. SightSpeed supports 640 x 480 video windows at any speeds above 1.5 Mbps, multiparty conference calls and in-call file sharing. … Read more

Logitech wireless guitar puts the cool into pretending to be cool

We've all been there. You walk into your buddy's place, ready to rock the house in a little Guitar Hero, only you're carrying some old and busted POS that's seen way too many sessions and is probably being held together by superglue and duct tape.

On Thursday, Logitech announced its new wireless guitar for Guitar Hero for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. Also, it's compatible with all Guitar Hero games, including Guitar Hero World Tour.

Called the Wireless Guitar Controller Premiere Edition, the guitar--which will be available in December--features a wooden neck, metal frets, metal tuning peg handles, and a rosewood fingerboard. Logitech debuts Harmony 510 universal remote

Logitech has stealthily released the Harmony 510, a new entry-level $100 universal remote that slightly reworks the design seen on the company's previous 500-series models. It's almost an exact copy of the Harmony 550, except for a different color scheme and slight reworking of the keypad. There are two fewer keys, and some buttons are relabeled. For instance, the bottom four buttons on the 550 are Sound, Picture, A, and B; on the 510, there are just four unlabeled colors (red, green, yellow, and blue). In fact, those color keys are actually borrowed from the European versions of the Harmony remotes--note the very similar Harmony 525.

To confuse matters further, there's a third remote--not counting the now (presumably) discontinued Harmony 520 and the Europe-only 525--in the line that's also a near-doppelganger: the awkwardly named Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360 (which we dubbed "AURX360", strictly for expediency's sake). Even for non-Xbox 360 owners, that model may actually be the pick of the litter, because it has a couple of extra buttons over the 550--and controls 12 devices, rather than just the 5 the 510 does.
