Fix for iPhone Update 2.2.1: iTunes Sync Problems

We previously reported on a problem with iTunes Syncing after the iPhone OS 2.2.1 update. Now, a fix from Apple has materialized, and can be executed as follows:

Launch iTunes

Select "Deauthorize Computer" from the Store menu

Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then clicking on the Deauthorize button.

Select "Authorize Computer" from the Store menu

Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click on the Authorize button.

Major, Minor Problems After iPhone 2.2.1 Update

Dozens for iPhone Atlas readers, and dozens more on Apple's Discussion boards, are reporting a bevy of issues after applying the iPhone OS 2.2.1 update. As usual, the following two procedures will work to solve a number of problems:

Simple fix for iPhone OS 2.2.1 application crashes

A number of users have reported that virtually all third-party applications crash soon after launching under iPhone OS 2.2.1. Fortunately, an extremely simple fix works in many instances of this problem:

Touch and hold any application icon the icons begin to shake. Tap the "x" in the corner of the application you want to delete. Tap Delete. Press the Home button. Download the application again, either from your iPhone or your desktop computer (there will be no additional charge for the redownload)

iPhone Update 2.2.1: iTunes Sync Problems

iPhone users are reporting a significant new problem involving iPhone syncing through iTunes after the iPhone OS 2.2.1 update. Posters to a thread on Apple's discussion boards report that afflicted iPhones will sync with iTunes for a period of time before stopping completely, generally after deleting songs. iPhone SDK for iPhone OS 2.2.1 Released

Shortly following the release of iPhone and iPod Touch firmware update 2.2.1 Apple has released the iPhone SDK for iPhone OS 2.2.1.

The new SDK is available for download if you are registered iPhone developer here.

This new release offers enhancements to the XCode IDE, Interface Builder, and Dashcode supports the creation of web applications that are optimized for the iPhone, as well as for Dashboard widgets.

iPhone OS 2.2.1 Released: Undocumented Fixes

Apple has released iPhone OS 2.2.1, a minor update to the device's firmware and operating system. Apple's release notes state only that the update increases the stability of Safari and resolves a problem in which images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the camera roll. However, users are beginning to discover several undocumented enhancements.

In particular, the update appears to address a nasty bug in which users suddenly experience inability to send SMS text messages on the iPhone 3G, receiving the message "error sending" upon attempting to send.

New iPhone software improves Safari stability

Apple has released a minor iPhone firmware update that is supposed to help improve the stability of its Safari browser.

The update should be popping up Tuesday if you connect your iPhone to iTunes. Update 2.2.1 is the first tweak released since Apple added Google's Street View to the iPhone's software back in November with the 2.2 release.
