On today's show, "worms from hell" a mile or more underground. We get a look at Windows 8 and we dig it, a lot. Google says a Chinese hacker got into hundreds of Gmail accounts, which China (not surprisingly) denies. Plus, Molly gets a new boyfriend to take to the bunker (which gets grilled cheese sandwiches in addition to its chicken and Gaga), and we get schooled on matters of space shuttle transportation.

Just a couple of days ago, J.K. Shin, Samsung's president of mobile communications, said an LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was in the works for later this year, but it looks like it's going to be sooner rather than later.

Verizon Wireless announced today that it will start taking preorders for the 4G Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on June 8. The carrier will offer a 16GB version for $529.99 and a 32GB for $629.99 but did not specify when the tablets would ship or be available in stores.

Samsung's new 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab tablet is slated to reach consumers in June, with Best Buy revealed as one of the retailers, but Samsung is also busy prepping a 4G edition due to hit the market later this year.

Best Buy's product page touting the Galaxy Tab says only that it's "coming soon," however, comments made recently by J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's mobile communications division, confirmed that the new 10.1-inch tablet and its smaller 8.9-inch cousin will reach consumers in June.

Samsung will officially launch the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on June 17. A couple of weeks back we were one of the lucky 5,000 to receive the Google I/O version of the tablet and put it through its paces.

The version to be released next week will sport a slight design change, eschewing the bathroom wallpaper-looking backside, replacing it with a more uniform chassis, like the iPad 2.

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet will come out of the box with the latest version of Android Honeycomb 3.1.

A Wi-Fi-only edition of Galaxy Tab 10.1 is due to hit the consumer market on June 8. The 16GB version is expected to cost $499, while the 32GB version will run $599.

Also, LinkedIn's IPO goes bonkers, Apple is close to signing all the necessary music labels to its hoped-for Amazon and Google killer, Kindle e-books outsell all print books on Amazon, and it turns out that Apple love really is a religion. Yesterday's formal introduction of Chromebooks marked yet another category of portable computing gadget in a landscape that's starting to feel overrun.

For $499, the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook has its work cut out for it--namely, because tablets and "high-end" 11- and 12-inch laptops and Netbooks (some with faster processors) have already occupied the same landscape.

It's a question we've been pondering for a while now, writ again: what truly constitutes the perfect small-screen portable? Suddenly, instead of one or two OSes to consider, there are four: Windows 7, Apple's iOS, and Google's Android and Chrome.

While the high end of the computer spectrum remains relatively stable (desktops, laptops), the increasingly fertile (or, perhaps, unstable) ground between laptops and smartphones has bred a variety of tech forms that all, in some way, are portable. Options have never been more diverse, or confusing.

If there's one thing I've realized in my short stint covering tablets, it's that apparently there can never be too many Honeycomb-based products in the wild. Today, at Google's I/O conference, the company gave away 5,000 Wi-Fi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1s. CNET was fortunate enough to have a few good men in the field willing to wade through cell phone belt holders and short sleeve button shirts to get us one.
