An unexpected Prizefight: TouchPad vs. PlayBook

Now, we could have taken the obvious route with our latest tablet Prizefight. The HP TouchPad is the new tablet kid on the block and of course the "on the nose" comparison would be the iPad 2. Less on the nose, but almost as obvious would pit the TouchPad against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Boring, boring, boring! (Incidentally, typing the word "boring" three times in a row doesn't preclude us from making the two aforementioned theoretical comparisons in the future.)

The tablet market is growing beyond Google or Apple-based devices, so we thought … Read more

Tablet prizefight: Acer vs. Asus

The year started out with only one Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet on the horizon (the Motorola Xoom). Today, nearly halfway through the year, we have so many Honeycomb tablets flying around CNET that it's hard to keep them all straight. More importantly, the prices on these things are steadily creeping downward, making them a more compelling alternative to Apple's lowest-priced iPad 2. Two of the latest low-cost Honeycomb tablets to hit the shelves are the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. The only trouble is, it's almost impossible to tell the two … Read more

Prizefight: Canon EOS 60D vs. Nikon D7000

Canon vs. Nikon is an age-old rivalry that well predates digital photography. And the battle in the midrange is one of the closest yet.

The Canon EOS 60D is fast, feature-packed, and has excellent photo and video quality; the Nikon D7000 can't match on the video quality, but it sports the company's best shooting design to date. So which system is worth the commitment?

We put the cameras head-to-head to see which comes out on top.

Prizefight: iPad vs. Galaxy Tab

With the iPad tablet computer, Apple is poised to dominate yet another tech category (remember MP3 players) before the competition has a chance to react. For Apple's devotees, the iPad is nothing less than a slam dunk.

Samsung begs to differ. Its Galaxy Tab tablet is a clear threat to the iPad and a worthy consideration to anyone shopping around for a tablet. The Tab offers a smaller, more convenient size, Adobe Flash support, front and rear cameras, and the fastest growing mobile OS: Google's Android 2.2.

But can the Tab unseat the incumbent Apple iPad as … Read more

Prizefight: iPod Nano vs. Sansa Clip+

In our latest CNET Prizefight, two clip-on MP3 players (the Apple iPod Nano and SanDisk Sansa Clip+) battle to determine which one is best suited to be your ultimate fitness-friendly audio distraction.

Apple pretty much wrote the book on tiny clip-on MP3 players, but SanDisk has been a quick study. The Sansa Clip+ doesn't have the brand recognition of the iPod, but it's been quietly racking up rave reviews for its ample features and ridiculously affordable price.

Based on the opinions of three CNET editors, which of these pinching players will prevail in a five-round battle royale? Click throughRead more

The battle for the best 4G phone

After last month's introduction of the Samsung's Epic 4G, Sprint now has two smartphones that support its growing 4G WiMax network. Though both handsets offer high-end features, luscious displays and the Android operating system, the Epic 4G and HTC Evo 4G aren't identical. The Epic has a nifty physical keyboard, for example, and the Evo has a superior camera and the Froyo (Andorid 2.2) update.

So which 4G phone is better? How do the devices stack up when compared with each other? Is the original handset, the Evo 4G, still the best or can the newcomer … Read more

Skype versus Google Voice: Prizefight!

Music locker smackdown: mSpot vs. MP3tunes

If you're looking to get your music collection stored in the cloud, two of the best options out there are MP3tunes and mSpot.

Both services offer a free starter plan capped at 2GB. They both integrate with iTunes or can be configured to manually upload music from specific folders. You can stream over any browser, or by using their dedicated mobile apps. The two services have so much in common, actually, that it can be hard to decide which one to use.

So, if you're sick of waiting around for Google or Apple to create their own long-rumoredRead more

Prizefight: Nissan Leaf vs. Chevy Volt

Two contenders are about to duke it out for our automotive future. Nissan brings out an all-electric car that promises emission-free driving along with low maintenance and per-mile costs. The Volt is also an electric car, but Chevy fits it with a range extending gasoline-powered generator, giving it about five times the range of Nissan's Leaf but adding to the complexity.

Brian Cooley takes an early look at both of these cars, weighing not only their drive-train technology, but also their connectivity and cabin tech systems. Watch as he gives a preview of which car might come out on … Read more

Pick the next Prizefight: HTC Droid Incredible vs. ?

When the news first hit that Verizon Wireless would offer the HTC Droid Incredible, the reaction was fast and furious and I received an inordinate amount of e-mails about the smartphone. Clearly, the Android device struck a chord with many of you.

Since then, we've had a chance to review the Droid Incredible and it truly is incredible, but, if we're being completely honest, we definitely underestimated the smartphone at first. Sure it had a better camera and more internal memory than some of its competitors, but it's not like the Incredible was offering any new, groundbreaking … Read more
