Retro Camera for Android keeps it old-school

Similar to Hipstamatic for the iPhone, Retro Camera is a popular Android application that lets you take six different styles of nostalgia-inducing photos.

Download and install the free app, then choose from the Barbl, Little Orange Box, Xolaroid 2000, Pinhole Camera, FudgeCan, and Hipsteroku cameras. Each combines its own levels of vignetting, film scratches, and camera noise to produce uniquely old-school photos.

When you open up the app, the first thing you'll notice is the beautifully accurate retro look and feel. Each camera has its own graphical interface and viewfinder, and each truly brings you back to the days … Read more

Polaroid decal gives iPhone a '70s flair

If you like modern gizmos but still hold a place in your heart for the gear of yore, you might go for a new decal that makes your iPhone look like an old Polaroid camera. It sells for $6 at Photojojo, which promises that the sticker's easy to apply and remove, and won't leave any residue. It's also supposed to guard your device from scratches, but don't expect any heavy-duty protection from dings and drops.

The decal, which is specially designed for the back of the iPhone 4, assumes the look of a Rainbow OneStep Polaroid … Read more

Crave 29: Live from CES 2011 (podcast)

The Cravers hit up CES 2011 to check out all the goodies on the show floor. Among the things we're looking forward to in the coming year: some Lady Gaga glasses that carry on the Polaroid legacy, an itty-bitty back-massaging SUV robot, and a super-stylish-yet-down-to-earth House of Marley iPod speaker. As for the reasons we're fat this week, two words: Vegas buffet.

CES: Lady Gaga rocks Polaroid camera sunglasses

LAS VEGAS--Sporting a pair of heavy dark shades herself, "Bad Romance" songstress Lady Gaga rolled into CES yesterday to unveil Polaroid sunglasses that can take pics and display them as well.

The super-stylish GL20 Camera Glasses contain a camera and 1.5-inch OLED screens that can capture and display images and video to people around you.

A veiled, black-clad Lady Gaga, Polaroid's creative director, demoed a prototype of the specs on a mannequin, calling the shades the first of their kind. The singer has sported video glasses made of iPod screens before.

The GL20 shades have a USB key in the earpiece so imagery can be transferred to a computer and uploaded to the Internet. The shades will be released later this year at an unspecified price.

They're part of a Grey Label lineup of Gaga-inspired products. Also coming out this year is the GL30 Instant Digital Camera, a printer-enabled device that evokes Polaroid's instant camera glory days. The 12-megapixel shooter can hold 10 3x4-inch prints and features a swiveling LCD screen for viewing pics before printing. … Read more

Get instant Polaroid prints from a pinhole camera

Fans of Polaroid photos, check this out. Korean designers Yoo Geun-hyuk & Yoon Bo-jung have conceptualized the Flutter In Pinhole camera, which is made from cardboard and has two Polaroid sheets inside. It comes shipped flat, and users simply have to expand the case and remove the strip covering the two lens openings at the front of the shooter to take a shot.

Supplied with the snapper is a white pencil which you can use to roll over the back of the camera to "process" the photos. Then, cut the snapper in half and you'll see two exposed Polaroid frames. There are even spaces at the side for you to use the pencil to write a message with.

It sounds confusing, but check out the video below to see how it works. … Read more

Once you open Poladroid, a picture of a Polaroid camera will show up on your desktop. To start converting your pictures into retro gems, drag and drop any JPEG file onto the Poladroid icon. The loading time for the application is a bit slow, but at least the sound effects are realistic. The final image does not show up right after you … Read more

New Polaroid cam resembles Fujifilm Instax Mini

Polaroid this week announced a new instant camera, the Polaroid 300. At first glance, you might mistake it for the Fujifilm Instax Mini, but that's only because the new Polaroid shooter was indeed developed in partnership with Fujifilm, which explains the similarity in camera design and technology.

It's unclear whether the Polaroid 300 will accept the same Instax Mini film used for the Fujifilm equivalent. But if you dive into the technical specifications, you'll realize that both snappers have the same features.

The Polaroid 300 will be available come May for approximately $90, and the Polaroid 300 … Read more

Polaroid factory jackets the picture of vintage

The Impossible Project, a cadre of fussy men who've managed to manufacture new film for Polaroid instant cameras, is open for business. Forget the film; check out these super-snazzy vintage factory jackets!

OK, don't forget the film just yet. There's a wide range of cameras and film available at the online store, but it ain't cheap. A special-edition Polaroid One with a single pack of film costs $180.
