Pocket Brain app offers searchable 3D atlas of the brain

Of all the subjects best taught in 3D, anatomy has got to be up there. And when it comes to human anatomy, the brain is arguably the most complex organ, if not system, of them all.

So it's fitting that 3-year-old medical education app publisher eMedia out of Ireland is adding the Pocket Brain app to its suite of 3D Pocket Anatomy offerings. (First came the body and the heart.) For $19.99, the interactive app for iPhone and iPad renders the old-fashioned textbook pretty close to obsolete.… Read more

Get a Kodak Playsport Zx5 pocket camcorder for $79.99

Great discussion yesterday on the subject of CDs! Lots of you are still very passionate about them; others prefer modern streaming and download options. Thanks for weighing in!

Back to business. It was less than a year ago that Kodak unveiled the Playsport Zx5, its second-generation waterproof pocket camcorder.

A lot has changed since then. Main competitor Cisco pulled the plug on the Flip Video line, and Kodak itself just announced plans to exit the camera business. Sad.

The silver lining: cheap deals on Kodak goodies. For example, today only, and while supplies last, Bedeals has the refurbished Kodak Playsport Zx5 pocket camcorder for $79.99 shipped. … Read more

Crave giveaway: Tokyoflash Kisai Rogue Touch Pocket Watch

Do you know what time it is? That's right, it's that time of the week known as the Crave giveaway, and this week's prize just happens to offer a pretty cool way of keeping pace.

Up for grabs is the Kisai Rogue Touch Pocket Watch, a modern take on the classic pocket watch. Made by Tokyoflash, it features an always-on touch display, as well as an LED backlight, and comes with a spring-hinged mineral crystal lens cover.

Though it looks like you need to understand some futuristic language to tell time, it's actually quite simple. The outside ring features 12 blocks that represent the hour, while the minutes are marked by the 60 smaller dots just inside the ring. There's even a second set of rings, in case you want to keep track of a different time zone, and you can rotate through the watch's various functions (date, alarm, and so forth) using the touch display.

Normally, the Tokyoflash Kisai Rogue Touch Pocket Watch would cost you $169, but you have a chance to get this geeky accessory for free. There are some rules, though, so please take the time to read them carefully. There will be a test. … Read more

Unlocked iPhone 4S now working in some T-Mobile network pockets

According to a support thread on T-Mobile's troubleshooting site, an unlocked iPhone 4S could be used on T-Mobile's network, utilizing the iPhone 4S UMTS 1 band.

This theory has been backed up by a report on an unofficial T-Mobile blog, claiming that an unlocked iPhone 4S, in certain parts of the country, can run on T-Mobile's 3G network.

iPhones have been a part of T-Mobile's landscape since the beginning. In fact, T-Mobile offers a quite nice support community for iPhone users, despite not officially offering the product.

Now, as TmoNews reports, T-Mobile has begun reframing some … Read more

Pantech Pocket review: Android's Big Bertha

The Pantech Pocket for AT&T is no Skinny Minny of a smartphone. Instead, its Big Bertha design is one of the Android smartphone's standout traits.

Pantech's Pocket has a 4-inch screen with dimensions that are rarely seen: a 600x800-pixel configuration known as super-VGA (or SVGA). That translates into a 3:4 aspect ratio that's both shorter and squatter than most other handsets with the same diagonally measured 4-inch screen.

The phone has a nice, grippy surface and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with Pantech's user-friendly skin. There's a 5-megapixel camera that takes nice … Read more

Pantech Pocket first impressions, pics

SAN DIEGO--While we liked what we saw of the Motorola Atrix 2, we were probably more intrigued by the Pantech Pocket, which was also announced for AT&T this week. It's a lower-end handset, yes, but its unusually wide form factor caught our eye.

Which is exactly why Pantech made it look that way. We had a closer hands-on look at the Pantech Pocket today, and one of the reasons the Pocket is wider than other Android handsets is precisely to stand out among all the rectangular black boxes that make up the Android landscape.… Read more
