Consumer Reports on Wednesday published results of its latest survey on the best and worst companies for computer tech support.
In January, the survey asked 7,000 subscribers who owned a laptop or desktop computer to rate their computer manufacturer in several categories: problem solved; phone waits; phone staff; and online support.
For laptop computers, Apple scored 86 out of a possible 100. That's 23 points above its nearest competitor, Lenovo, which scored a 63. In fact, Apple scored the highest in each of the Consumer Reports categories.

Gizmodo is reporting several readers who've been given a 15 percent cash refund for having to return a broken 27-inch iMac. It's been widely reported that customers have complained of receiving 27-inch iMacs with cracked, flickering, or yellow-tinted screens. Along with the recent update to iTunes that Apple released, the company also issued the anticipated firmware update for their 27-inch iMacs which is an update for the display hardware itself, and is supposed to help address video problems that have plagued the new machines. These have included blank displays, yellow-tinted LCD colors, and display flickering, of which the latter is addressed by this update.… Read more
We've heard a variety of reports relating to problems with the display on Apple's 27-inch iMacs. Some customers have received iMacs with cracked or flickering screens. Others have seen their displays take on an unsightly yellow tint.
We can't say we encountered any of those problems when we reviewed the 27-incher in October. Apple also has yet to publicly acknowledge anything other than shipping delays because of high demand in an apology back in December.
