Messaging fans, rejoice! At long last, Verizon Wireless has announced the availability of the LG EnV(2), the long-awaited sequel to the LG EnV. It is, as you can see, a slimmed-down version of the original, but it still has a pretty roomy keypad and easy controls. Our only complaint is that its features (which include a 2-megapixel camera, a music player, and EV-DO support) don't stand out too much from the first EnV. We just received the LG enV(2) in-house and are currently putting it through the rigors of the review process. As you'll recall, the enV(2) is the true successor to the LG enV VX9900--we originally thought it was the LG Voyager VX10000, but the Voyager turned out to be a complete makeover rather than an incremental facelift. LG had a very impressive showing at CTIA this year, especially with the LG enV(2) for Verizon Wireless and the LG Vu for AT&T. After we were done giving the LG Vu the once-over, we shifted our attention to the LG enV(2) to see how different it really is from the the original enV. The answer: a lot. Measuring 4.0 inches by 2.13 inches by 0.65 inch, it's smaller, slimmer, and just overall better looking than the first enV, especially its front face. A day ahead of its scheduled announcement, Verizon decided to spill the beans and put out a press release announcing the LG EnV2, which is the genuine successor to the LG EnV of years past. We once thought the LG Voyager (which won an Editors' Choice, by the way) was the successor to the much-beloved LG enV, since both of them sported a flip-out QWERTY keyboard. But it seems like we may be wrong--the LG VX9100, which may be dubbed the LG enV2, looks to be the true successor to the LG enV. Indeed, the VX9100 (or enV2) has that same candy bar look when the phone is closed and doesn't have the fancy touch-screen display like the Voyager. Though Verizon Wireless isn't announcing the LG Venus and Voyager at CTIA, the cell phones are making guest appearances. I got a few minutes to play with both handsets, the first time I've seen them in the flesh, and I all I can say is, "wow." Both the Venus and Voyager sport throughly lovely designs that will do a lot to bring more style to the formerly stodgy Verizon. Yes, they're a bit on the hefty side, but they back up their bulk with sleek and shiny profiles.

Yep, LG has finally come out with the most appropriate color for the EnV--green. Or as it looks like to me, army green. It's an exclusive to Circuit City stores though, for $79.99 after a $50 rebate (Quite a price drop from $149). The specs are about the same as the original LG EnV, so no rush to get this if you're not a fan of the color.

If you're tired of the black hue of most gadgets, you might be interested in the LG EnV's newest shade of orange. It's otherwise the same device as the original black, but at least it'll be a tad more stylish. Though we can't help but think that green would've been a better fit for the "EnV" name. It's currently available for $149.99 with a two-year contract.
