Panda Cloud Cleaner would make an adorable title for a children's book, but it's based on the Collective Intelligence of the cloud, so it's more like sci-fi. Actually, it's a free anti-malware utility with cloud-sourced updates and definitions, which means timely detection and prevention of threats. We're big on anti when it comes to viruses and other malware, so Cloud Cleaner's claim to detect malware that other tools miss caught our attention. You'll need an active Internet connection, and not just for updates: Panda Cloud Cleaner sends your scan data to the cloud … Read more
RealNetworks today gets into the cloud storage game with its new RealPlayer Cloud app. Available on a multitude of platforms, RealPlayer Cloud takes a videocentric approach to storage, and its success could mean a sort of rebirth for the arguably irrelevant streaming-media company.
At first glance, RealPlayer Cloud might seem like just another storage service, as it gives new users 2GB of free storage (US and Canada only) and offers premium plans that start at $4.99 per month. What sets this multiplatform app apart from other cloud storers like Dropbox and Google Drive, however, is that it is exclusively … Read more

Whenever friends tell me they can solve my problems, I am skeptical.
Somehow, they don't quite know the in-and-outs of my life and the people who creep into it.
So please take the following information and dip it into a bag of salt-and-vinegar chips, especially as it comes from people I don't even know -- and neither, I suspect, do you.
I have just been contacted by a no-doubt very fine, if cloudy, company to say it can solve the government budget crisis.
I always thought the whole point of budgets was to create crisis.
But anyway, thank … Read more
Adobe Systems on Tuesday announced the availability of its $10-per-month subscription for Lightroom and Photoshop and released Lightroom 5.2, which expands and refines the software's photo-editing tools.
More details on Lightroom 5.2 are below, but here's how the new subscription works. It's called the Photoshop Photography Program, and it's available only to those who have a license to Photoshop CS3 or later. Unlike the discounted promotional price for its broader Creative Cloud subscription, which costs Creative Suite customers $30 per month for the first year and then $50 afterward, the Photoshop-Lightroom subscription price doesn'… Read more
On the eve of the launch of iOS 7, Apple relaunched its iCloud.com services Web site on Tuesday with a redesigned user interface that takes its visual cues from the new version of the company's mobile operating system.
First previewed in beta earlier this summer, the Web portal has dumped the dark linen background for a soft blue background sporting blurred orbs. Icons have also been redesigned for Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, and Find my iPhone Web apps to match the new animated background found in iOS 7.
The new site, which appears to be available to all, … Read more

The update brings an entire new look and feel to iOS devices, which in turn will likely lead to late-night calls from your parents asking why their phone or iPad looks so different. That is, if they can find the redesigned Phone icon.
In addition to the new look, there's a long list of new features such as a new Control Center, photo filters, and AirDrop.
With the update in mind, it's important … Read more
With a net increase of 331,000 subscribers in its most recent quarter, Adobe attracted enough customers to its $50-per-month Creative Cloud subscription plan to bring the total past 1 million, the company announced Tuesday.

Investors liked the news, which came along with Adobe's report of $995.1 million in revenue and earnings of 32 cents per share for the quarter ended August 30. The company's stock popped 5 … Read more
Like Google and Microsoft, Adobe Systems has been bitten by the hardware bug.
The software company announced Tuesday that it will begin selling its Mighty digital pen -- a stylus for iPads that it first demonstrated in prototype form in May. And it announced two new iOS app prototypes, Parallel and Contour, that make use of the Mighty and a related Adobe hardware product, a digitally connected ruler called Napoleon.
The Mighty is designed to close the gap between drawing on paper and using a tablet, with a Bluetooth link to the tablet software and drawing technology that Michael Gough, … Read more
Enterprise cloud-storage company Box is seeing the need to please consumers if it wants companies to keep using its software, so Box has designed what it hopes is a more user-friendly way for teams to collaborate on files.
The new tool unveiled Monday is dubbed Box Notes and is similar to Evernote. It displays changes to a text file in a straightforward manner and has a stripped-down tool bar that only appears when you highlight the text you want to change. This is a departure from Box's previous content creation tool, which was much more like Google Docs in … Read more
