Seeing red: AT&T/Cingular introduces red BlackBerry Pearl and Treo 680

Look out! AT&T/Cingular is painting the town red as they officially introduced the red RIM BlackBerry Pearl and the crimson Palm Treo 680 today. The Pearl will sport a dark ruby red casing, rather than the blinding hue we had feared earlier. It'll also be the first phone to sport the new AT&T branding. Aside from the cosmetic changes, the blushing smart phone keeps all the features of the original BlackBerry Pearl, including push e-mail, multimedia functions, and push-to-talk capabilities. The red Pearl is available starting today; prices start at $199.99 with a … Read more

Who else? AT&T/Cingular in line for Moto Q q9

Seriously, is it me or is Cingular/AT&T getting the lion's share of smart phones these days? It's already got the BlackBerry 8800, the Samsung BlackJack, and the Cingular 8525 in its lineup. Could the Motorola Q q9 be next? We're a bit suspicious of this image of an AT&T-branded q9, but as a quadband, HSDPA device, it's not too much of a stretch to say it'll land at Cingular.

BlackBerry Pearls are red, Crave is blue...

Because we're not huge fans of the blinding color, how about you? All right, poets we are not and this isn't the real BlackBerry Pearl Red (just a mock-up). But, according to the latest report from Engadget Mobile, such a device appears to be Cingular-bound. Perhaps taking a page from the LG Chocolate and all of its colored variations, RIM seems to be trying to get the most out of its popular messaging device with minimal effort; the BlackBerry Pearl is already available in black and white. No official word on availability and pricing, though we figure (or … Read more

Keep the hope alive: Rumors of Cingular Nokia N75 resurface

We'd just about given up hope on ever seeing the Nokia N75 hit U.S. streets, but our dreams have been briefly resuscitated after spotting pictures of a Cingular-branded N75 on the Boy Genius Report. As you may recall, the N75 got the FCC's blessing back in November, so it's really just up to Nokia and Cingular to get this thing finalized and out the door. Unfortunately, there's no official word on availability or pricing, but there are rumors that the N75 may be released as early as this month or delayed till later--come on, already! … Read more

3G iPhone slated for next year?

The Apple iPhone rumors just won't stop! Now that the months of speculation about the iPhone's existence has been quelled, the rumor mill is churning again, and this time it's about the second revision of the infamous Apple phone. Yes, this second version of the iPhone is still very much in the vaporware stage, but that doesn't stop the recent rumblings (courtesy of AppleInsider) that the next iPhone will not only be available for our European friends, but that it'll also come with 3G support. If you'll recall, one of the biggest letdowns about … Read more

AT&T goes with the MediaFlo

When Verizon announced at CES 2007 its partnership with Qualcomm's MediaFlo to bring V Cast Mobile TV to customers, we were so impressed that we awarded it the Best of CES award in the Cell phones category. Well it seems that Cingular/AT&T has jumped on the MediaFlo bandwagon as well: The nationwide GSM carrier has announced that it will use the MediaFlo technology to deliver live TV and video to its customers.

Just to jog your memory, the MediaFlo technology will allow cell phone carriers to broadcast television signals directly and independently to supported handsets via … Read more

RIM and Cingular announce BlackBerry 8800

Warm up those thumbs, kids: Research in Motion finally has announced the RIM BlackBerry 8800 that we've been hearing about as of late. Available through Cingular/AT&T, the BlackBerry 8800 is a full QWERTY device, and taking a page from its slimmer sibling the BlackBerry Pearl, it sports a new, sleek black casing, a trackball navigator, and a built-in media player for music and videos. The BlackBerry 8800 also has built-in GPS, so you can use it in conjunction with the carrier's TeleNav GPS Navigator service to get 3D maps and turn-by-turn driving directions right on … Read more

AT&T turns parents into big brother

AT&T rolled out a new security portal today called Smart Limits. Designed for parents who want to monitor all aspects of their children's activities, the site provides instructions for parental controls of the Internet, cellular phones, television watching, and regular landline telephone calls. There is one catch, though: all the information is for AT&T's services, so it's not going to work on your Comcast cable box or Verizon cell phone.

There's obviously a big push for parental controls, as Windows Vista and Web services like MySpace recently have pushed out new child protection initiatives.Read more

News Roundup: Live mail gets hotter, Mobile ESPN resurrected, Last.fm + Warner, Job Resumes on Facebook

>> Microsoft sticks with Hotmail name. First it was Hotmail, then it was Windows Live Mail. Now it's Windows Live Hotmail. Will people still call it plain ol' Hotmail? Probably. The name change is reminiscent of the Cingular/AT&T debacle of late. Microsoft is choosing to keep the Hotmail moniker in its upgraded e-mail service, despite the vastly different interface.

>> Verizon breathing new life into Mobile ESPN. The Web-to-phone service that was originally offered as an MVNO and got axed less than a year later has been resurrected by Verizon as a part of … Read more

Samsung's answer to the iPhone

Akihabara News was one of the first to notice this morning that Samsung has announced a rival to the still-yet-to-be-released iPhone from Apple.

Samsung said in a statement that it will reveal the Ultra Smart F700 at the 3GSM World Congress next week, but did offer a few specs and photos to tide us over until then.

Similar in look and function to Cingular 8525 smart phone, the Samsung Ultra Smart F700 also has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and touch screen. The screen is about 2.78 inches and responds to drag and drop. The smart phone also has … Read more
