Yahoo has been doing some housecleaning and stumbled across some dusty and musty domain names it had registered for forgotten reasons long ago. Wisely, Yahoo has decided it doesn't need to keep jockeys.com in its back pocket for a rainy day.
Yahoo has given its Finance Web site a new look and layout designed to deliver more personalized information.
You can now add a list of stocks that you own or want to follow in the upper left corner. The page then displays the current trading price of each one. Clicking on the More button reveals further details, such as the latest price changes and the market capitalization. And clicking on a specific ticker symbol takes you to a full page with information on that particular stock.

The top tech companies are sharpening their blades in their battle with the National Security Agency. While they've been doggedly asking for transparency on the agency's mass surveillance program for months, they're now calling for reform.
Google, Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook, and AOL penned a letter (pdf) to the lead members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday urging the lawmakers to substantially reform the NSA surveillance practices. The companies also asked for additional oversight and accountability mechanisms for the spying programs.

Several months ago an NSA employee drew a diagram of how the spy agency could secretly hack into Google's data centers scattered around the world. It was hand-drawn on what appears to be a large Post-it note and showed how the NSA could circumvent Google's security and freely harvest millions of records, ranging from metadata about who sent or received emails to text, audio, and video content.
At the bottom of the diagram, a dotted line with an arrow points to the place where the public Internet connects with Google's cloud. An exclamation point and a smiley … Read more
In a quest to compete with search king Google, Yahoo and Microsoft shook hands in 2010 on a 10-year partnership to jointly boost their search market share. After three years, Yahoo now appears to be having some cold feet.
Court filings released on Monday reveal that Yahoo's CEO Marissa Mayer has allegedly been trying to put the brakes on the partnership, according to Reuters. In the filing, Yahoo said it wants to put the deal on hold until it can talk to Microsoft's new CEO. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced in August that he'd be stepping down, … Read more
David Pogue, the tech columnist popularly known for his goofy video demeanor over 13 years at The New York Times, is leaving the venerable paper to lead expanded consumer tech coverage at Yahoo, Chief Executive Marissa Mayer and Pogue himself announced in separate blog posts Monday.

But the new style and missing features have triggered a slew of angry comments on the Yahoo Mail blog and even a Change.org petition asking Yahoo to revert back to the old layout.
Tops on the hit list is Yahoo's decision to remove tabs, which allowed people to switch among different views. Users also want the ability to "sort … Read more
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is, once again, asking for a bit more time to prove that Yahoo can remake itself.
During the company's third-quarter earnings live-stream, which features Mayer and CFO Ken Goldman as mock broadcast news anchors, the promising CEO made sure to emphasize that the company needs more time to turn itself around. Yahoo on Tuesday delivered disappointing earnings again. Though it beat Wall Street's estimates, the company reported that its revenue was down by 5 percent in Q3.
