T-Mobile USA wants to offer more than cell phone service. The company is getting into the voice over IP market with a new application that will allow people to make voice calls from Facebook.

T-Mobile USA today announced the Bobsled by T-Mobile service, which will offer voice calls via Facebook. This new application will provide Facebook's more than 500 million users worldwide with free, one-touch calling to their Facebook friends from a personal computer and through the social platform's chat window.It's available now for download here.

The Federal Communications Commission has formally started the process for reviewing the proposed $39 billion merger between AT&T and T-Mobile USA that was announced last month.

The FCC has posted its public notice that establishes procedural rules for the review process and will allow the public to weigh in on the proposed merger. AT&T and T-Mobile will file their formal applications by the end of the month as the FCC considers transferring wireless licenses.

In a blockbuster mobile deal, AT&T announced today it had agreed to acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion.

NEW YORK--T-Mobile USA and its parent company Deutsche Telekom are getting more aggressive in the U.S. mobile market, top executives at the companies said at an investor conference here today.

Rene Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile's parent company, said he expects the carrier to make a turnaround this year and to generate $3 billion in revenue by 2014. He also expects T-Mobile to reduce its churn, or the rate at which it loses customers, to roughly 2 percent this year and below 1.8 percent by 2012.
