T-Mobile 'Gekko' officially reveals itself as T-Mobile Sidekick

It's so hard to keep a good secret these days. Just ask T-Mobile. Word of its new Sidekick model, code-named Gekko, got out months ago and was all but confirmed about a week ago when the ruthless blogosphere got hold of some internal T-Mobile documents about the upcoming model.

Well, today, the wraps were officially taken off the new model. Simply called the T-Mobile Sidekick (more on this new, puzzling naming scheme below), it's the first Sidekick to debut since device manufacturer Danger was acquired by Microsoft.

The Sidekick isn't a revolutionary, new product, but we think … Read more

T-Mobile's latest Sidekick, code-named Gekko, will launch July 30 according to cell phone enthusiast blog The Boy Genius.

The blog said the new device will be an entry-level Sidekick "that won't break the bank." The new phone will supposedly sport a 2-megapixel camera, video recorder, stereo Bluetooth, and other standard Sidekick features, according to the blog. The Boy Genius has also posted some pictures it claims were leaked from T-Mobile.

It looks like the creative geniuses in Microsoft's product marketing team may have helped name the new device that will simply be called "Sidekick … Read more

The Sidekick Slide Scarlet can be yours today for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

T-Mobile temporarily pulls Sidekick Slide--updated

It's lights out for the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide--well, temporarily anyway. T-Mobile and Motorola pulled the new Sidekick from the carrier's lineup last Friday after confirming that some devices are powering off after opening and closing the phone. Motorola says it's currently working to identify the cause of the problem, but geez, that's no way to make a first impression. If you'll remember, the Slide is the first Sidekick not to be made by Sharp. We should note that the Sharp devices, including the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and Sidekick iD, do not suffer from this … Read more

Too old for a Sidekick?

Am I too old to own a Sidekick? As someone in his early 30s (okay, mid-30s) I've always thought that the T-Mobile Sidekick belonged more in the hands of a twentysomething, My Space addict than it did in my very uncool hands. But after Bonnie Cha lent me the Sidekick LX, I discovered I liked it using it. The spacious QWERTY keyboard is one of the best I've seen on a phone and the display resoultion is top-notch. Yes, it's missing a lot of high-end data and multimedia features but as a messaging device it's hard … Read more
