Guy Adams' Twitter ban lifted

British journalist Guy Adams -- the reporter for The Independent who became suddenly famous when Twitter banned his account at the request of NBC -- is back in action.

Adams explained -- via Twitter, of course -- that he received an e-mail from Twitter saying, "We have just received an update from the complainant retracting their original request..." and that because of that his account has been "unsuspended."

Yesterday, NBC admitted that it had asked Twitter to suspend Adam's account. A report in today's Daily Telegraph said that Twitter had alerted NBC to Adams' tweetsRead more

Did Twitter alert NBC to Adams' Olympics criticism?

The drama surrounding Twitter's suspension of a U.K. newspaper reporter over his criticism of NBC has taken a rather surprising twist.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting today that it received an e-mail from Christopher McCloskey, NBC Sports vice president of communications, who told the news outlet that his company was alerted to tweets The Independent reporter Guy Adams sent out criticizing NBC over its Olympics coverage by Twitter itself.

"Our social media dept was actually alerted to it by Twitter and then we filled out the form and submitted it," McCloskey told the Daily Telegraph.

Fanhattan for iOS adds HBO and Cinemax, still trying to be iPad's perfect video app

Devices like the iPad have become spectacular as repositories for streaming TV apps and video services, but they're not so great at discovery of said streaming shows, which tend to be scattered around like Easter eggs across different apps. The latest version of Fanhattan takes a small step forward in the great Mission To Help iPad Users Find Their Videos, but it's not the perfect app yet. … Read more

NBC's tape delays and Twitter don't mix

No tape delay for Monday's top tech headlines:

This year's NBC broadcast of the Olympics may offer the best streaming technology yet for watching the games online, but NBC has come under fire from critics for not being good enough in today's instant-news world.

For for the first time, every event is streamed live online (but without full commentary). You'll need to prove you pay for a cable television package to watch the games as they happen, and some have said loading the streams on mobile devices can be problematic at times.

Reporter suspended from Twitter following tweet run-in with NBC

Last updated: 1:20 PM PT

There's a brouhaha emerging that involves a reporter for the U.K. newspaper, The Independent, NBC's Olympic coverage and Twitter.

The reporter, Guy Adams, who has been critical of NBC's Olympics coverage,  was allegedly booted from Twitter for including NBC exec Gary Zenkel's email address in a tweet. Zenkel is President, NBC Olympics, and Executive Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for NBC Sports.

In anticipation of the opening ceremony broadcast, Adams tweeted: "I have 1000 channels on my TV. Not one will be showing the Olympics … Read more

Olympics fans told to stop tweeting if they want TV

Dear people of London,

We need to talk. And you need to talk less.

You're going to have to change your ways, because you're really messing up the Olympics TV coverage.

Yes, even more than NBC is.

Because all of your stupid, pointless, self-serving, self-aggrandizing texts and tweets are clogging data systems. Which means that TV coverage is being disrupted. And we can't have TV coverage being disrupted.

Well, except in the U.S.

We, at the International Olympic Committee have been forced to inform you, kind, polite people of London, that, as we have just told Reuters, … Read more

How Apple, Microsoft can stop NBC's Olympic contempt

If you watched Ryan Lochte's gold medal-winning swim live, you were in the vast minority. Or you simply don't live in the U.S.

While so many in the world, regardless of what time it was in their parts, watched and enjoyed, Americans could only watch online, and then hope their browsers wouldn't seize up -- a problem reported by readers, and experienced firsthand by yours truly.

Naturally, complaints have rained down on NBC like frogs at the end of "Magnolia."

Those who understand sports and the world have been quick to condemn. The Dallas … Read more

Testing NBC's Olympic live-stream: It works (I think)

I got up early this morning, just to try NBC's Olympics live-stream.

That's a lie. I have jet lag. But NBC's traditionally brilliant coverage would have got me up anyway.

That's something of a lie, too. As my colleague Ben Dreyfuss explained on his deeply engaging Twitter feed: "Bob Costas: Here's Bangladesh, which is just overflowing with terrible athletes! #OpeningCeremonies."

Look, I couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd see whether NBC's live-streaming was slightly better than its live, steaming nonsense about not showing the opening ceremony live.

Here's my … Read more

@NBCOlympics: 'Great opening show; too bad you can't see it'

It's something of a tradition for NBC to ensure that the U.S. is even further cut off from reality.

In previous iterations of its Olympics coverage, the network's insistence on refusing to show events live -- favoring instead tape-delayed, saccharine soap opera -- put many people off watching at all.

But not enough people, obviously. NBC seemed to believe that, without competition during the summer viewing season, it could create this false programming and people would watch by default, which quite a few did.

This year promised to be different. Every event was to be live-streamed. Oh, … Read more
