The dialogue takes place at noon Eastern time.

Those in attendance at the event in Durham, New Hampshire, will be able to ask questions in person, but online observers will be able to submit questions through the MySpaceIM instant-messaging client as well as through MTV.com and e-mail. Microsoft begins beta testing Vista service pack

Microsoft on Monday said it has released a beta version of the first service pack of Windows Vista to about 12,000 testers.

Microsoft had said back in August that it expected to start private testing of the service pack within a few weeks. The update is largely a collection of bug fixes and performance and compatibility improvements, but includes some minor new features such as support for the ability to encrypt multiple hard drive partitions using Vista's BitLocker feature.

In another expected move, Microsoft said that it has completed its first near-final "release candidate" version of … Read more

Windows Server 2008 test release due next week

SAN FRANCISCO--Microsoft next week plans to issue its first Windows Server 2008 release candidate, a near-final version of its operating system, a senior executive at the software company said Thursday.

"We expect the release candidate next week," said Mike Neil, Microsoft's general manager of virtualization, in an appearance during a speech at the Intel Developer Forum here.

The release candidate will include a test version of software code-named Viridian and formally called Windows Server virtualization. This "hypervisor" allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously, a useful technology in improving server efficiency and eventually leading toward … Read more

Make a connection with Barack Obama on LinkedIn

Plenty of coverage has been devoted to national politicians' widespread adoption of MySpace and Facebook as campaign tools--it's a popular strategic move to ride the wave of viral buzz and simultaneously cater to the elusive youth vote. Democratic candidate John Edwards was even a Twitter early adopter.

Business-oriented social-networking site LinkedIn, meanwhile, has stayed out of the political fray. And indeed, LinkedIn hasn't started any formal campaign tie-ins the way MySpace has. But that hasn't stopped presidential hopeful Barack Obama from creating a profile on the site; if you want to "add him as a connection,&… Read more

While Wagoner might seem like a stretch for a … Read more

2008 Cadillac CTS first look

Cadillac's efforts to reposition its brand extend to the cabin electronics in the update to the Cadillac CTS, with a new infotainment system that outstrips the competition. We've seen live traffic integration and a music server on the Lexus LS 460, but Cadillac introduces both features on its lowest-end model, the 2008 Cadillac CTS. This second burst from Cadillac's next-generation salvo takes the bold "Art and Science" design and makes it fit better with the sport-luxury segment on which the company has set its sights.

The bold edges of the original CTS remain, making the … Read more

MySpace, MTV team up for one-on-one presidential dialogues

In an appeal to the coveted youth vote in the upcoming presidential elections, MySpace and MTV announced Thursday that they have joined forces for a series of "one-on-one dialogues" with all the major candidates from both political parties--televised and Webcast events in which presidential hopefuls will answer questions from MySpace members and MTV watchers. Formally, it's a collaboration between MySpace's "Impact" political channel and MTV's "Choose or Lose" election effort (which it has been operating since the dinosaur days of the 1992 election), and it's the first collaboration that the … Read more

2008 Honda Accord sports new hood, more horsepower

While it's not quite as cool as the 2008 Honda S2000 CR (photo gallery), the Accord is probably the car that many of you reading this blog will actually think about buying brand new.

And why not. In this era of expensive fuel, you might take a liking to the car's relatively good gas mileage and redesigned hood (which spiffs up an otherwise humdrum body design) and decide to make it your next family car or train car or I-am-still-paying-off-student-loans car.

Here's the four-door sedan and, yes, that is our esteemed Boston in the background. Different bumper … Read more
