In December 2008, Cisco decided to pay developers to stick a finger in the Microsoft eye with a $100,000 bounty for writing Linux-based applications for its AXP (Application Extension Platform) and Integrated Services Routers (ISRs). Nine hundred registrations and 75 countries later, Cisco has announced its 10 finalists.

The networking giant on Tuesday announced a new initiative called Collaboration in Motion, designed to help workers on the go by integrating different services for the mobile market.

Clearwire named networking equipment maker Cisco Systems as a key supplier to help it build its nationwide 4G wireless network, the companies announced Wednesday.

As part of the new strategic partnership, Cisco will provide IP routers and other equipment to build Clearwire's network, which uses a technology called WiMax. Cisco will also develop some consumer devices that can be used on the network. Cisco wouldn't provide specifics about the new products, but a Cisco representative said that these devices will be sold under the Linksys brand and are expected to be introduced later this year.

Networking company Cisco has introduced a package of data center tools for carriers wishing to deliver cloud services over next-generation IP networks.

The Unified Service Delivery package, announced on Tuesday, combines Cisco's existing Unified Computing System technology with its Nexus 7000 switch--an updated, data center-optimized version of its CRS-1 router--and the company's next-generation IP products.

The combination will make delivery of video and data services more efficient and lay the groundwork for the delivery of business applications to any place, according to Cisco.
