Buzz Out Loud 685: Do Androids Dream?

HTC has subtly referenced Phil Dick by naming their forthcoming Android phone Dream. But is it a replicate? We'll never know. And of course Google is crumbling because their search traffic grew. You heard that right. We'll explain that theory and attempt to debunk it on the show. Listen now: Download today's podcast EPISODE 685

The blogosphere's Napoleon

The blogosphere is atwitter (see Techmeme) with Mike Arrington's latest call for someone to "pony up a big round of financing around an existing blog, or perhaps a new entity, and then start rolling them up into a big fat CNET-crushing $200 million per year in revenue business."

It's pleasing to have Mike and others targeting CNET. It must mean that we are at the top of the heap. Competitive envy comes with the territory. And I admire what Mike, Om Malik, Matt Marshall, Rafat Ali, and others have done to build their networks and companies. … Read more

SourceLabs gets (back?) into Linux support

CNET's Martin LaMonica is reporting that SourceLabs "enables do-it-yourself Linux support." This is actually what SourceLabs was talking about several years ago when it started. Or, rather, it was talking about offering support for open-source stacks that include Linux.

The real news in this is that SourceLabs is still around at all. That's not intended to be snotty. I just haven't heard from Byron and crew for many years, and haven't seen any press releases/etc. In fact, a quick check of Google News for 2007 suggests that Martin may well be in a … Read more

Court says Jana can nominate members to CNET's board

Jana Partners, the hedge fund trying to take control of the board of online-media company CNET Networks, publisher of News.com, on Thursday said a court ruled that the investors have a right to nominate seven directors to the company's board and to propose expansion of the board by five members.

CNET in January said the efforts of a group of activist investors led by Jana, to nominate two directors to the company's board and expand it to 13 seats, were improper under CNET's bylaws.
