Norton 360

Computer security is all the rage, and there's no shortage of products out in the wild to help keep your system safe. If, like me, you're a general sort of user you may want to take a look at Symantec's Norton 360. With its intuitive user interface and light use of system resources this is a great all purpose application for the home user. Don't let your hot new system go to waste for lack of good security!

Sony's Blu-ray video editing system

It's hard to say whether Sony intends its just-announced VAIO RM HD Video Editing system as a professional-level workstation or not. Its $3,500 price tag, its Blu-ray burner, and the fact that it comes with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 say, "yes," but its single dual-core processor, the lack of a FireWire 800 port, and the use of the word "videophile" in the product's press release say otherwise. Apple's Mac Pro crosses over between the professional and the consumer worlds well enough, so perhaps it's easiest to consider the VAIO RM … Read more

Sony's Vaio TP1: Not a robotic vacuum

At $1,600, Sony's new Vaio TP1 Living Room PC, announced today, might be a little pricey for some of you, especially considering that it doesn't have an HD optical drive. Still, we suspect that its Roomba-like design might be charming enough to help it find a way into many living rooms. It does include an HDMI-out, so you can at least hook it up to your HDTV. It will be powered by Windows Vista Home Premium and an Intel Core 2 Duo laptop chip (which model is unspecified). Other specs include built-in Wi-Fi networking, a standard-definition, … Read more

A very portable holiday season

If there's anything I hate more than the mole people who are, even now, planning our destruction, it's laptops of shoulder-breaking proportions. That's why I've decided to ask Santa (Hi Mom!) for something in the ultraportable range. The Sony VAIO VGN-TXN15P/W is the king of the ultraportable laptops, with a bevy of features and an amazing battery life to boot. If, however, you're looking for something a bit more stylish, the Acer Ferrari 1004WTMi might be right up your alley. It's an excellent combination of speed and style that manages to avoid being … Read more

Sony laptops go over the rainbow

We've seen red, green, brown and certainly pink, so why not just throw in the rest of the color wheel?

That, apparently, was the philosophy behind Sony's latest designs for their VAIO notebooks. Gizmodo gives us the lowdown: "The mid-range C-Series (starts at $1,150) gets Green/Red Storm, Angel, Blue Streaks, and Pink Swirl makeovers while the desktop replacement AR Series (starts at $2,270) gets Green Streaks and Orbit."

The old battleship gray is starting to look better and better all the time.

Sony laptop breaks the 2-pound barrier

Sony has always been obsessed about its weight, going back to the days of its tiniest transistor radios, and that self-consciousness persisted as it got into the computer business. And in its crowning anorexic achievement to date, the company just announced the first laptop of its kind to break the 2-pound barrier.

Sony has dropped poundage with full-featured notebooks in the past, most notably with its 505 series, but those first machines had only 10-inch screens and smaller keyboards that were often difficult to use. The new Vaio G series, however, sports a 12.1-inch LCD while dropping about a … Read more

Sony's $4,300 James Bond playset

Remember when you were a kid and the coolest birthday present you could get was a Fisher-Price or Little Tikes "playset" packed full of kiddie versions of grown-up tools? Depending on the contents of the colorful plastic briefcase, you could pretend to be a doctor, a construction worker, a detective, a cop, or what-have-you. Yes, I suppose they make those for grown-ups, too, but here at Crave we like to keep things clean.

Anyway, Sony is definitely capitalizing on kiddie nostalgia with its new "Limited Edition Spy Gear Set," a promotion for the latest Bond flick, &… Read more
