Loopfuse integrates open-source demand generation into CentricCRM

Loopfuse and CentricCRM announced today a partnership that brings tight integration of Loopfuse's demand-generation software into CentricCRM's Customer Relationship Management suite. I'm a big believer in what Loopfuse is doing, as I've written. This is a logical next step for Loopfuse as it seeks to broaden the reach of data-driven marketing for companies that do business online (which is pretty much everyone).

I like the combination:… Read more

PeopleSoft founder releases Workday Financials beta

It's been nearly a year since Dave Duffield unveiled his on-demand enterprise applications company Workday, with the launch of his Workday Human Capital Management software.

And since that time, Duffield and Co. have been toiling away to build out the rest of his on-demand enterprise resource planning (ERP) vision. The PeopleSoft founder has added another piece to his project.

A beta version of Workday Financials was released Monday. The software includes core accounting features such as accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial accounting and reporting.

In the to-be-added category, the company plans to add such features as support for … Read more

Netflix playing hardball with subscription pricing [UPDATE]

Update: Representatives from Netflix have let us know these lower-priced plans are part of a test for selected Netflix subscribers, and the current prices that were lowered last month remain for new and existing customers.

Netflix is cutting the price of two of its most popular plans by $1 today, less than a month after its last cut in July. The pricing hasn't been changed on Netflix's rates page, but the company has been sending out rounds of e-mails to its customers about the change since last night, and made an announcement about it earlier this morning. The … Read more

Demand generation beyond the software world

I had a call with venture capitalist friend yesterday to talk about Eloqua, Loopfuse, and other demand-generation software. Not being nearly as shortsighted as I am, he didn't want to talk about how open-source companies could benefit from such software, but instead wanted to talk about how non-tech companies could.

It's not the first time I've been struck by my own ignorance, but I really wasn't expecting to have to wallow in it yesterday. :-)

I was then surprised to see a similar perspective in this interview with the founders of Loopfuse:… Read more

A look at Webwag, single page aggregator for your phone and PC

Webwag is a single-page aggregator that's been around for nearly a year now. Like other similar services, it lets users create one or more customized start pages, filled with modules of content that update continuously throughout the day. These feeds can be searched and browsed through a fairly large directory, along with the capability to drop in any old RSS feed. What's a little cooler, however, is Webwag's Widget-on-Demand tool, which will let you grab a live snippet of any Web page, and turn it into its own widget. If you're familiar with the Webclips serviceRead more

Salesforce.com or Pavlov: You decide

Journalists tend to generate a lot of dog references by the public. Lapdog, bulldog, bloodhound, you get the picture...

But here's another description to throw into the mix: Pavlov's Dog.

The saliva content in the newsroom usually hits the high water mark when the Salesforce.com press kits arrive, historically bearing chocolate.

But today, a lot of saliva went to waste. The Salesforce press kits arrived, touting the company's Summer '07 release, but no chocolate. Instead, a small, white box of mints came with the delivery.

Do you think the mints address dog breath?

Open source demand generation goes 2.0

Today, Loopfuse announced that it has released the 2.0 version of its open source demand generation product. In case you missed David Skok's exceptional OSBC presentation (Detailing lessons learned from JBoss' success, and an upgrade on my own presentation on this same subject). [Note: If you're prompted for a user name/password, try conference/attendee.]

What is demand generation? If you're an open source company, it's your lifeblood. Open source companies grow up and live online. If you're not using a demand generation tool like Loopfuse (or Eloqua - proprietary and pricey but very … Read more

ABC to Cox: No ad skipping on video on demand

Walt Disney's ABC and ESPN are expected to announce Tuesday a deal with cable operator Cox Communications to offer shows on demand, but there's a catch. Cox will have to disable its fast-forward feature that lets viewers skip ads, The Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site Tuesday.

The deal is expected to be announced Tuesday at the National Cable Television Association's annual convention in Las Vegas. The arrangement will only apply to shows in the video-on-demand library and will not affect viewers using a digital video recorder, the newspaper said.

Vudu: Netflix killer or just another VOD wannabe?

Heard of Vudu? Neither had anybody else until this weekend, when the Silicon Valley start-up got a double shot of well-coordinated publicity that's been burning up the Web: a big write-up in the New York Times and a batch of exclusive photos on Gizmodo. Vudu, it seems, is the latest stab at a video-on-demand movie box--a little set-top device that hooks to your TV and downloads movies from a broadband Web service. But Vudu looks to have some key advantages over past efforts from the likes of RCA and MovieBeam. First, it has the backing of most of the … Read more
