SAN JOSE, Calif.--The first day of the patent infringement trial between Apple and Samsung wrapped up with a jury in hand.

On the way to that selection, potential jurors were asked myriad questions ranging from what gadgets they owned to whether they worked for either company. Such a question was an important one given where the trial is taking place. The U.S. District Court here in San Jose is just a few miles away from Apple'… Read more

NBC's tape delays and Twitter don't mix

No tape delay for Monday's top tech headlines:

This year's NBC broadcast of the Olympics may offer the best streaming technology yet for watching the games online, but NBC has come under fire from critics for not being good enough in today's instant-news world.

For for the first time, every event is streamed live online (but without full commentary). You'll need to prove you pay for a cable television package to watch the games as they happen, and some have said loading the streams on mobile devices can be problematic at times.

Former Apple designer: I won't testify at Samsung trial

Former Apple designer Shin Nishibori is playing hard to get at testifying in the patent showdown between Apple and Samsung.

Samsung had been counting on Nishibori to appear in court. While at Apple, he developed designs of a Sony-like iPhone, according to AllThingsD, reportedly at the behest of Apple's design guru, Jony Ive.

The maker of Android-based smartphones has been arguing that Nishibori's designs serve as evidence that Apple's iPhone was influenced by Sony. If proven to be true, those claims would help Samsung, which has been accused of copying the iPhone for its own Galaxy smartphones. … Read more

Apple says 'Purple' iPhone concept predates Sony's art

Sony has been dragged into Apple's bitter patent dispute with Samsung, but the iPhone maker wants to stop that.

Samsung recently charged Apple with copying Sony smartphone and Walkman designs with its iPhone. That alleged copying, the company argues, should prove "the invalidity of Apple's designs."

However, Apple yesterday filed a motion with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, saying that Samsung's claims should be thrown out. And to back up its point, it provided to the court an iPhone concept design it developed in 2005, called "Purple." … Read more

Samsung, Apple head for courtroom confrontation

At stake for Apple is a possibility to convince a jury -- and perhaps the world -- that one of its biggest rivals could only have gotten where it is by copying Apple technology. Beyond that, the … Read more
