Glitch delays Photoshop Express update

Adobe Systems has delayed a planned update to Photoshop Express after discovering a last-minute glitch.

"As you know, we were preparing updates to the Photoshop Express beta on May 7th that added significant new functionality to the product," Adobe said in a statement. "However, prior to going live, we discovered a bug that requires a fix. We're committed to delivering a quality experience with Photoshop Express and don't want to send out an update that isn't ready for prime time."

Photoshop Express now Flickrs

Update: Adobe has informed us that while the new Flickr connection isn't live yet, it will be very soon. We will provide another update when we have confirmed that it is live.

When Adobe launched Photoshop Express at the end of March, it indicated that Flickr support would be next on the agenda, and today the company can cross that item off its to-do list. Photoshop guru leaves Adobe for Microsoft

Mark Hamburg, a programmer who worked on Photoshop since version 2.0 and helped lead development of the newer Photoshop Lightroom, has left Adobe Systems for a new job at Microsoft.

Martin Evening, a Lightroom expert and author, reported Hamburg's new job on his blog Friday, saying Hamburg will be involved in user experience work. A Microsoft representative confirmed the new hire but didn't share further details.

Adobe praised Hamburg but said there are plenty of other programmers to carry the torch.

Adobe combines PC and mobile groups

Adobe Systems, maker of Photoshop and Acrobat software, is folding the company's mobile group into its platform operations as a way to create one platform for computers, handsets, and other consumer devices.

The move coincides with the departure of Al Ramadan, who was in charge of Adobe's mobile unit. Ramadan spent nearly 10 years at Adobe and Macromedia, Adobe said in a press release.

The company is still trying to consolidate business units from its 2005 acquisition of Macromedia.

Adobe drops unpopular online Photoshop terms

Responding to criticism, Adobe Systems has modified the legal terms for using its online Photoshop Express service, a move the company promised would happen.

"Adobe has retained only those limited rights that allow us to operate the service and to enable you to do all the things the service offers," the company said in a statement. "If you decide to terminate your Photoshop Express account, Adobe's rights also will be terminated."

Next Photoshop will get 64-bit boost--on Windows only

Adobe Systems has shared the first scrap of information about its next version of Photoshop, CS4, and it's a doozy: there will be a 64-bit version of the photo-editing software, but only for Windows and not for Mac OS X.

Adobe generally keeps features in the Windows and Mac versions at a level of parity, but that wasn't possible this time around because of a change Apple made last year to the Mac's programming underpinnings, John Nack, Adobe's product manager for Photoshop, said in an interview.

Report: Complaints trigger rewrite of Photoshop Express terms

It appears Adobe is quickly responding to concerns about a surprising clause in its terms of service for Photoshop Express, the free Web-based software launched Wednesday that has otherwise been well-received.
