Get a Lenovo IdeaPad A1 Android tablet for $189

This is an update of a deal I wrote about a couple months ago.

New iPad, new schmi-Pad. If you're looking for bang for the buck in the tablet department, and don't care about things like pixel overkill and 4G, the deal to beat remains the Lenovo IdeaPad A1. It's the little tablet that could--by which I mean it could prove more than adequate for the majority of users.

For a limited time, Lenovo is offering the black IdeaPad A1 tablet for $189 shipped. (To get that price, apply coupon code FOURDAYDEAL315 at checkout.) That's not … Read more

Windows 8 and why to wait on the new iPad

On Friday, Apple's third iteration of the iPad arrives in stores.

With a higher-resolution display, a 4G LTE connection, and a better camera, the tablet isn't a completely new device, but that hasn't stopped it from sending consumer interest through the roof. Already Apple has sold out of online preorders, and analysts are suggesting that the company could sell a record-breaking 1 million iPads on the first day of sales alone.

If you really want a new iPad, my guess is that either you've ordered one already or you're going to get in line on … Read more

Rumor Has It, Ep. 24: Google's gunning for iPad, with Asus' help (podcast)

I am writing this blog post from under my desk, because I am too embarrassed to face my esteemed colleagues after the stunt we pulled today. We play the most embarrassing Internet video yet. Starring moi. I have been blushing a deep purple ever since, and because I may now be notorious in downtown San Francisco as that crazy girl in front of the Apple store, I have decided to wear a disguise in public at all times. Guys, it's mortifying. Go watch it.

But--sweet relief!--with the new iPad no longer on our rumor roster, we get down … Read more

Multideal Monday: Roku box, Fitbit, Nook Simple Touch, and more!

I'm writing today's post on a laptop running Zorin OS, a Linux variant that looks and operates a lot like Windows 7. That has nothing to do with today's deals--just thought I'd mention it. It's pretty cool.

In the market for a Roku box? Antivirus software? How about a dirt-cheap home theater receiver? I've got you covered, and then some. That's right: it's a multideal Monday!

1. Today only, Woot offshoot Moofi has the Roku XD-HR streaming media player for $59.99, plus $5 for shipping. This is the flagship model of … Read more

Nokia to launch Windows 8 tablet later this year, says report

Nokia could hit the Windows 8 tablet market later this year with its own 10-inch device.

Citing "sources at upstream component suppliers," DigiTimes says that Nokia will likely debut a dual-core Windows 8 tablet in this year's fourth quarter at the earliest. Microsoft hasn't yet revealed a launch date for Windows 8. But the new OS is expected to appear before year's end, either just before or early in the fourth quarter, according to most predictions.

Nokia will outsource the manufacturing of its Windows 8 tablet to Taiwan-based Compal Electronics with initial orders totaling at least 200,000 units, the sources said.… Read more

How to get maximum resale value for your new iPad

Getting ready to order an iPad 3? (Sorry, a "new iPad"?) For some, the answer is a resounding, "Hell, yes!" I'm fairly tempted myself, what with that lovely Retina display, blazing A5X processor, and sweet, sweet 4G LTE.

Of course, if history repeats itself, a year from now we'll all be getting ready to order an iPad 4 (or "Newer iPad," if Apple's nomenclature department is feeling lazy once again). And that means we'll be looking to unload our new--er, old--wait, huh?--iPads.

It may sound crazy today, but if you want to get the most bang for your resale buck, it's best to plan ahead--starting right now. Here's how to make sure you get top dollar when the time comes to list your new iPad on eBay--sometime around March 2013.… Read more

Rumor Has It, Ep. 23: The iPad is so close, we can taste it (podcast)

We start out today's show with a very important message to all you copycats out there: give credit where credit is due! And that's all we have to say about that.

Whew! Tomorrow's iPad event means we can finally stop talking about the elusive iPad...3? Or maybe it's the iPad HD? Or maybe it's the iPad YouKnowYouWantOne? We'll find out tomorrow, where undoubtedly a million points will get on the board. And then we can finally put that baby to rest.

Also on today's show, we talk about something not Apple related (if you can believe it), play our Yay or Nay game (copyright, trademark, all rights reserved 2012), and count how many accents Emily whips out. (Our last count was nine.)… Read more

Barcelona has big mobile dreams

With a lovely Mediterranean location, an Olympic history, and a wealth of Modernisme architecture, Barcelona, Spain, is one of the planet's top tourist destinations. And if city officials have their way, the Catalan capital will be known as the "Mobile World Capital," as well.

Since the annual Mobile World Congress trade show moved to Barcelona from Cannes, France, in 2006, the city has invested heavily to keep the event, which attracted an estimated 67,000 attendees (and their expense accounts) over the course of the 2012 show last week. And last July, Barcelona got its wish when it beat outRead more
