T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide review: Best camera around?

HTC is mighty proud of the 8-megapixel camera and accompanying camera software it put on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide, enough so that it beat its chest that this phone has the most advanced camera on any smartphone around.

We haven't had the phone in our clutches long enough to perform every test, especially against all our other smartphone cameras (but stay tuned--we will!) We did, however, run enough tests to know an overblown claim when we hear one.

Samsung Galaxy S II may be Sprint-bound, too

The image may be blurred, but the phone's body, distinctly bumpy back cover, and slightly upturned base are telltale signs of the Galaxy S II model.

This is My Next got their hands on a pair of images that show Sprint's markings. The photo above also clearly shows an 8-megapixel camera, the lens strength of the Galaxy S II.

Motorola Photon 4G for Sprint launching July 31

Sprint revealed today that the Motorola Photon 4G will be available starting July 31 for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

Introduced in early June, along with the Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile, the Photon 4G is Sprint's latest Android smartphone and the carrier's first device to feature Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

The Gingerbread device also offers world-roaming capabilities, 4G support, a 4.3-inch qHD touch screen, and a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and a front-facing VGA camera for video calls.

HTC Status: First impressions

NEW YORK--AT&T held a special event today to showcase some of its current and upcoming products, including the HTC Status.

Available starting July 17 for $49.99 with a two-year contract, the Status is the U.S. version of the HTC ChaCha, which was first introduced at Mobile World Congress. Designed in collaboration with Facebook, it's the first handset optimized for the social networking site and features a dedicated Facebook button, so you can easily post status updates, share links and music tracks, upload photos, check in, and more.

Gingerbread now available for Droid Incredible 2

Marking its second Android software update in as many days, Verizon Wireless is now offering Gingerbread to owners of the Droid Incredible 2. Customers who have the HTC handset can manually search for and download the Android 2.3 update, which also addresses random reboots and freezing applications.

Huawei Ascend II descends on Cricket

Beginning today, the Huawei Ascend II is now available for Cricket customers. We first saw the successor to the original Huawei Ascend at CTIA last March, and immediately noticed some differences.

Huawei's second Android smartphone with Cricket is sleeker, without the physical buttons and trackball. It's also slimmer, lighter, and more up-to-date, running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Like the original Ascend, the Ascend II has a 3.5-inch HVGA screen (we were hoping for more advancements here), a 5-megapixel camera with camcorder, and a 600MHz processor (we had hoped Huawei would bump this up as well.)

The Motorola Droid 3 made its debut today with very little fanfare--despite previous hubbub of rumors and leaks--and is available now online from Verizon Wireless for $199.99 with a two-year contract ($459.99 off contract) and in stores by July 14.

Vizio's new 8-inch tablet now up for preorder

First demoed at CES in January, Vizio's new 8-inch VIA tablet finally has a price and a ship date.

Slated to ship on July 18, the new Android tablet is now available for preorder. Vizio is selling the tablet directly for the full retail price of $399. However, consumers can grab a better deal by ordering it at Costco for $329 or Wal-Mart for $348.

A report from mid-June had already pegged Wal-Mart selling the tablet for $349.
